‘Polite girl’ Kiara Brown loses ‘The Voice’ battle, but Kelly Clarkson swoops in to steal her from Gwen Stefani [WATCH]

During Monday’s episode of “The Voice,” Gwen Stefani paired up Kiara Brown and Royce Lovett in a battle to “Turn Your Lights Down Low,” but things didn’t go as planned.  After Gwen announced Royce as the winner of the battle, she pressed her button to “save” Kiara, whom she dubbed “polite girl” for the way she acted in rehearsals. But that’s when Kelly Clarkson also swooped in to try to “steal” the 22-year-old singer for her own team. In the end Kiara decided to switch mentors and join Team Kelly, which meant Gwen got to use her “steal” for another day. Watch “The Voice” battle video above.

“I do think you tricked me in the blinds,” Kelly told Kiara after her impressive performance. “The whole point [of the blind auditions] is for you to show us all that you’re capable of. You didn’t, ma’am. Your range is incredible. Why didn’t you show that? I would have turned for days. I’m so impressed by your voice, but I’ve even more floored with how Gwen talks about you.”

Next it was Gwen’s turn to try to convince Kiara to come back onto her team. “I wasn’t planning on this, Kiara, because I have somebody else on Team Gwen that I was super torn about, and now I’m just super confused,” Gwen stated. “I would love to work with you more. I thought we had a lot of fun together. Either way we’re gonna be on here all together and it’s really up to you.”

Kiara thanked Gwen for opening up a part of her personality that she “didn’t even know existed.” Then she made the big announcement that she was jumping ship from Team Gwen to Team Kelly. “I want to show Kelly that I have even more to bring,” Kiara declared later on backstage.

In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the battle: “As soon as the battle began it was clear that Gwen had picked the perfect song for the two of them–Royce was particularly well-suited and still managed to show off many layers to his voice. But Kiara stepped up to the plate and hit her own homerun to match him. Gwen called her decision ‘painful,’ but in the end went with: Royce!”
