Preacher Lawson voted into ‘AGT: Champions’ finals thanks to hilarious jokes about dating a white girl [WATCH]

Ten acts from all over the world performed during Monday’s season premiere of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” but only two advanced to the finals. Operatic singer Susan Boyle was Mel B‘s Golden Buzzer pick and stand-up comedian Preacher Lawson was the choice of the Superfans, delegates from all 50 states. Preacher wowed America and “AGT” judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel with his jokes about being a vegan and his white girlfriend. Watch Preacher’s winning performance above.

“A little about myself: I’m a vegan,” Preacher declared during his stand-up routine. “We don’t eat animals. We don’t eat meat or whatever. And the reason I decided to be a vegan was because I had a dog and I fell in love with my dog and I was like, I can’t eat my dog.” He then joked, “I know what some of y’all are thinking. A black vegan? He must be married to a white girl. Psych — we broke up, so that’s not true at all.”

Preacher continued, “My ex is white, all right? I dated one white girl, which is annoying because I went black, black, blackity-black, Puerto Rican, black, white, and everyone’s like, ‘I knew it!’ like I came out of the closet or something.” He later had the judges on the floor laughing with his jokes about kissing a white girl and having her makeup come off on his face, just like “making out with a powdered donut.”

Back in Season 12 Preacher lost to ventriloquist Darci-Lynne Farmer, but this time around he’s in it to win it. Mel B told him that if she still had her Golden Buzzer, “it would have been yours.” Heidi said that he was “on fire today,” even funnier than he was the last time he competed. Howie called him a “superstar.” And Simon noted that he was “great before” but that tonight he was “fantastic.”

The Superfans voted on the nine remaining acts (since Susan Boyle had already advanced) with Preacher, singer Bianca Ryan and contortionist Sofie Dossi receiving the highest number of votes. After an agonizing wait, host Terry Crews announced that Preacher was the Superfans’ #1 choice to advance to the finals. See the complete “AGT: Champions” format.
