‘Project Runway’ 17: Hester Sunshine suffers an invasion of the unconventional material snatchers [WATCH VIDEO]

Designer Hester Sunshine finally got her quirky groove back on last week’s third episode of “Project Runway” 17. She made a darling red plaid outfit from material that could have doubled as a tablecloth at an Italian restaurant. She even fashioned a fabric ball as an earring and sewed a flirty garter, accessories that boosted her into the win column with the judges.

But this week, her status just might change when the ever-popular unconventional challenge is on the table, as shown in the first preview clip below.  After collecting a pile of materials at a woodsy camp ground, Hester places them on the ground and runs off to find some leaves. In swoops Lela Orr, who is about to help herself to Hester’s goodies.  Lela says, “This challenge is definitely up my alley. People wouldn’t think I would love camping by looking at me, and I wore heels today. But they’re combat boot heels, so I’m very prepared.”

Prepared to be a scavenger that is, as she picks over what is rightfully Hester’s. Lela stares at the pile and asks, “Is this anybody’s?” Without waiting for an answer, she helps herself to the booty. Mentor Christian Siriano cries out “One minute!”  Hester returns and she instantly knows her stuff has been ransacked. She shouts, “Hey guys, my pile. I feel like everyone took part my pile.”

It looks as if there is still a considerable amount of stuff left, but Lela might be really glad she wore those combat boots if she has to face the wrath of Hester.

In the next clip, we witness the reaction of city-slicker designers who aren’t exactly at home in the great outdoors. They include Rakam Shams Aldeen, who says, “Me and the nature are not like very close.” Word of a presence of a spider sends Bishme Cromartie running. Then the rain starts to pour. Judge Elaine Welteroth labels Renee Hill‘s creation “a bit of a shipwreck.” Renee’s reply:”It’s a struggle for me being out here, being a city woman.” We will see if that excuse flies this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
