Singer-songwriter Rizzi Myers first met Kelly Clarkson at one of her post-“American Idol” concerts when she was only 17 years old. Now this 29-year-old mother of two is hoping to follow in Kelly’s reality TV show footsteps by winning “The Voice” Season 16. Rizzi is off to a great start because three coaches — Kelly, John Legend and Blake Shelton — turned their chairs around for the Nashville resident during her performance of Ariana Grande‘s “Breathin.'” Watch “The Voice” blind audition video above from the season premiere.
Rizzi brought along photo evidence of her backstage meet-and-greet with Kelly from 12 years ago. When Kelly saw the picture she screamed, “Oh my God, that’s my favorite hair I’ve ever had! Can I keep it?” The two powerhouse singers then laughed and hugged like they were old friends reuniting.
Just minutes before, Kelly had used her “Block” to prevent John from coaching Rizzi, but it turned out she didn’t need to use it because Rizzi was obviously a Kelly superfan. “I looked over at John and I was like, I am ready for a soulful singer,” Kelly explained about why she blocked the newest “The Voice” coach. “I was nervous, and you are so good.”
Kelly continued, “You came in here and you showcased everything that you are possibly able to do, but you did it in a way that we’re still wanting more. And on top of that you seem fun and hell.” Rizzi then showed off her fun side by instructing Kelly, “You better come on up here girl!” in order to see the photograph.
“The talent so far in Season 16 is so versatile,” Kelly said later on. “I used my block on John. He’s new. He doesn’t know that you have to go quick if you’re gonna block somebody.” Will Rizzi be the third consecutive winner to come from Team Kelly, following Brynn Cartelli (Season 14) and Chevel Shepherd (Season 15)?
