The Screen Actors Guild announced on Tuesday that two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro will receive their life achievement award at the 2020 ceremony on January 19. The 26th annual SAG Awards event will air live on TBS and TNT.
De Niro is a seven-time Academy Award nominee who received his only SAG Award as part of the “American Hustle” ensemble. He has also received the American Film Institute life achievement award, Cecil B. DeMille Award, Kennedy Center Honors and a Presidential Medal of Freedom. He currently stars in “The Irishman” and “Joker,” meaning he could be nominated at this 2020 ceremony beyond his acceptance of this honorary award.
The following living people have already received this award and weren’t eligible to be chosen again: Joanne Woodward (1986), Robert Redford (1996), Angela Lansbury (1997), Kirk Douglas (1999), Sidney Poitier (2000), Edward Asner (2002), Clint Eastwood (2003), Julie Andrews (2007), James Earl Jones (2009), Betty White (2010), Dick Van Dyke (2013), Rita Moreno (2014), Carol Burnett (2016), Lily Tomlin (2017), Morgan Freeman (2018) and Alan Alda (2019).
