Monday night during the Top 8 performance episode of “The Voice,” country/soul singer Rod Stokes of Team Kelly Clarkson took on Vince Gill‘s “Go Rest High on That Mountain” for America’s vote. As the last remaining member of Kelly’s team after last week’s bloodbath, Rod felt the pressure to do his coach proud in the semi-finals. Will Rod make it into the Top 4 of Season 16? Watch “The Voice” performance video above, read the coaches’ comments below and then make your predictions before Tuesday’s results show.
John Legend: “It was lovely. You know, I think it wasn’t one of your technically best performances, but I felt like the emotion was as strong as you’ve ever had it. I really felt that you were singing a song that meant something to you. I felt that from you and that’s a beautiful thing.”
Adam Levine: “I tend to agree with that, but I think that it was a good thing for you to do that song, too. I thought that it was a nice change of pace. There was a lot of these big pop songs almost that you were doing, and this was a different look at you as a singer. I’m a huge fan of yours. I still don’t understand how you’re not on my team — I don’t think anybody does. I’m still learning the rules, I guess, of the new show. But you’re amazing, dude. I’m a huge fan.”
Blake Shelton: “I love how connected you were to that song. Sometimes maybe your emotion can invade what happens technically with a performance, but I’ll take emotion every time over it.”
Kelly Clarkson: “The thing I love most about with working with you Rod, and this happened a lot with me and Brynn too in Season 14, is we would almost read each other’s minds, and we have done the same thing. I feel like that’s been my favorite part of coaching you. I feel like we’re so in sync and you just have this natural ability to just touch people in a way that few can. A lot of people can sing, but not a lot of people can move people. I think that that’s what you do really, really well. I’m so happy you’re on my team and you landed here, ’cause this is home.”
