Rose Short (‘The Voice’) switches things up by performing Blake Shelton hit ‘God’s Country’ [WATCH]

Powerhouse R&B artist Rose Short of Team Gwen Stefani switched things up this week on “The Voice” by singing Blake Shelton‘s hit “God’s Country” during the Top 10 performance show. Rose’s mother had seen Blake performing the country tune on the CMA Awards and knew it was the perfect song choice for her daughter’s next performance. Do you think Rose will make it through to the Top 8? Watch “The Voice” video above and then make your predictions before Tuesday’s results show.

“First of all, you look stunning,” Gwen told Rose after her stellar performance that included a gospel choir. “Every week you get more beautiful, just because I get to know you and you’re just such a beautiful person. We were talking right before this and it just feels so meant to be, just in our story and just the way that song came about. It was your mom’s idea and it just felt very meant to be and beautiful and perfect for this moment right after Thanksgiving and family. I’m just so proud of you.”

Blake was awestruck by Rose’s iteration, proclaiming, “You were killing it.” Her performance is now prompting Blake to “rethink” his entire arrangement. “I love how the song opened and I loved how you finished up by going over the top, all the ad-lib stuff,” he said before asking, “Was that the same song? That was incredible.”

In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “Diverting once again from her own genre, Rose took on Blake’s song ‘God’s Country’ this week. Rose turned the song on its head, making it into a booming vocal performance in the choruses as if it was made for a big female gospel/soul voice. But I also liked that she brought it down in the verses to show that she doesn’t just rely on the big moments. When the choir on stage with her joined her in the finale stretch of the song it was a really good moment for her–one I’d think they might have saved as the encore performance of the night!”
