Just as Gold Derby predicted, Shane Q was eliminated during Tuesday’s results episode of “The Voice” following his Top 10 performance of “Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run).” This 28-year-old versatile artist from Team Kelly Clarkson ended up in the bottom three along with Joana Martinez and Marybeth Byrd, with the live social media voters instantly saving Marybeth. That meant both Shane and Joana were unfortunately eliminated just prior to next week’s semifinals. Watch Shane’s “save me” performance of “Killing Me Softly” above.
“Everybody in this competition goes home at some point,” Kelly told Shane just before host Carson Daly announced the live results. “What the point is of this show — and ask Jennifer Hudson, man — you don’t have to win a show like this. You just have to be present. You have to show people what you can do. And that’s what you’ve done, Shane. You’ve improved greatly. Your range is incredible and the fact that you sing any genre you want, you’re gonna be able to do this the rest of your life. I’m not worried.”
Kelly was referring to her former “The Voice” co-coach, who originally rose to stardom on “American Idol” despite finishing in seventh place. Since then JHud has become one of the most successful people in the industry, winning two Grammys and even an Oscar.
In his parting words, Shane told Kelly he loved her “so much.” He thanked her for pushing him to his limits, saying, “I do my best and I try to dig deep and pull out things that I’ve never shown people on stage. I’m gonna take all of your advice and I’m going to apply it to my life and grow. I’m just gonna do what I do.”
Throughout his time on “The Voice” Shane performed such classics as “Tennessee Whiskey” (blinds), “Too Good at Goodbyes” (battles), “In Case You Didn’t Know” (knockouts), “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” (playoffs), “My Wish” (top 13), “Mercy” (top 11) and “Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)” (top 10).
