Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello steamed up the VMAs with ‘Senorita’: Watch MTV Video Music Awards duet

Talk about a successful collaboration. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello joined forces on their new single “Senorita,” which they performed together at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. They also took home a pair of Moonmen for the video, so the Monday night telecast turned out to be the capstone to a pretty successful week for the pair. Watch their steamy performance above, and check out the full list of VMA winners here.

This isn’t the first collaboration between the two artists, but it’s definitely the more successful. They previously teamed up in 2015 on the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which peaked at number-20 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. But when “Senorita” dropped this past June it debuted all the way up at number-two, and after waiting several weeks for the record-breaking “Old Town Road” to run out of steam, it finally reached number-one. That news came on August 26, just a few hours before their VMAs performance.

It’s the first number-one hit for Mendes and the second for Cabello, who previously topped the chart with another collaboration: “Havana” featuring Young Thug. Their combined popularity turned out to be good news at the VMAs too. They won Best Collaboration and Best Cinematography for their video. Those were the first victories for Mendes, but Cabello already has a crowded awards mantel. She previously won three Moonmen with the girl group Fifth Harmony, and in 2018 she won Artist of the Year and Video of the Year (“Havana”) as a solo artist.

A long-awaited chart-topping hit and a couple of VMAs announced within hours of each other — not bad for a day’s work.
