‘The Voice’ shake-up: At what point should Blake Shelton ultimately retire as coach? [POLL]

Nothing lasts forever, particularly when it comes to reality TV. On “The Voice,” both Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have been with the show for all of its 16 seasons on the air, but with Adam’s surprise announcement that he’s quitting ahead of the fall cycle, we’re all of a sudden wondering about Blake’s shelf life. At what point do YOU think the country coach should ultimately retire from “The Voice” — after Season 17? Season 20? Season 25? Never? Vote in our poll below and then defend your decision in the comments section.

Blake has won the most champions by far with six of his artists claiming victory: Jermaine Paul (Season 2), Cassadee Pope (Season 3), Danielle Bradbery (Season 4), Craig Wayne Boyd (Season 7), Sundance Head (Season 11) and Chloe Kohanski (Season 13). He came close to a seventh triumph this past season, but his country finalists Gyth Rigdon, Dexter Roberts and Andrew Sevener were all bested by Maelyn Jarmon of Team John Legend.

Winners aside, Blake is also the most successful coach when it comes to America voting his artists into the coveted Top 4. He had three such contestants in the Season 16 finale (Gyth, Dexter and Andrew), and two apiece in Season 15 (Chris Kroeze and Kirk Jay), Season 14 (Kyla Jade and Spensha Baker), Season 13 (Chloe Kohanski and Red Marlow) and Season 12 (Lauren Duski and Aliyah Moulden).

When it comes to rival singing show “American Idol,” no single judge stuck it out as long as Blake’s 16+ seasons on “The Voice.” The three longest-lasting “Idol” judges were Paula Abdul (eight seasons), Simon Cowell (nine seasons) and Randy Jackson (12 seasons). However, it should be noted that “American Idol” only airs one season per year, compared to two a year for “The Voice.” If Blake wants to match Randy’s record of 12 years on the air, that means he’d have to continue coaching until Season 24 in 2023.

The new cycle of “The Voice” begins this fall on NBC, with Blake returning for his 17th season alongside Kelly Clarkson (her fourth season), John Legend (his second season) and Gwen Stefani (her fourth season). Do you think Season 17 should be Blake’s final one as a coach, or do you hope he sticks around for a while longer?
