Simon Cowell and Edna, Darci Lynne Farmer‘s naughty old woman puppet, have a notoriously rocky history on “America’s Got Talent.” They originally met back in the semifinals of Season 12 when Edna professed her love for Simon and sang Aretha Franklin‘s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” directly to him. As it turns out, Simon never bothered to call Edna after that performance and so she became rather “cranky,” revealed ventriloquist Darci. When Edna appeared in spinoff series “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” during Monday’s season finale, lightning struck as Simon not only made up with the elderly puppet, but he also made out with her. Watch the video below.
“I’ll tell you what the problem is,” Edna told Muppet character Rowlf the Dog during the act. “People don’t call you back when they say they’re gonna call you back.” When Rowlf said that he didn’t have Edna’s number, she retorted, “Not you — him! It’s that Simon feller. He doesn’t call me anymore. I believe I’ve lost him for good. I can’t breathe. I can’t eat. I can’t find my dentures. I can’t smile without him.”
That last comment led brilliantly into a duet of Barry Manilow‘s “Can’t Smile Without You,” with Rowlf playing the piano and singing along with Edna. After the peppy performance, Simon got up from the judges’ table and walked up on stage. “I actually like you,” he told Edna before going in for a juicy kiss. “I’m sorry I didn’t call.”
After the smooch Edna’s mouth shot open in shock and then she temporarily fainted into Darci’s arms. When host Terry Crews asked Edna how she felt, Rowlf chimed in, “I think she passed out.” Edna finally came to and stammered, “He makes my heart flutter. I love you, Simon!”
Despite Darci being a favorite of the judges and the viewers (remember, she won Season 12), this 14-year-old ventriloquist shockingly lost “AGT: The Champions.” The winner ended up being card magician Shin Lim, himself a former champ from last year’s 13th season.
