This week on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” the Top 10 girls were cut to a Top 5. Some of the decisions made by the judges Mary Murphy, Nigel Lythgoe, Dominic “D-trix” Sandoval and Laurieann Gibson were bound to hurt.
But fans of show were quick to express their disgruntled reactions on social media after one contestant, 21-year-old Glendale, Calif., ballroom dancer Nazz Sldryan, was dismissed after she seemed to perfectly perform a sassy hip-hop routine to the song “Overseas” with All-Star and Season 10 winner Fik-Shun. That butt swivel at the end was everything. Even though she was way out of her comfort zone, the judges “ooh”-ed and “ahh”-ed over Nazz’s moves. Laurieann was even heard to utter, “Who is this girl?” Watch Nazz’s performance for yourself below and see what you think.
As one fan responded on Twitter, “This was one of those routines worth repeat viewings.” Another Nazz fan proclaimed, “Nazz KILLED that.” But when it came to the comments by the judges, Nigel gave a hint that while he was a big supporter of her work, he also added, “I have been fighting for you this week. I’ve loved everything you’ve done.” Mary also seemed impressed by how she not just kept up with Fik-Shun, but that she was starring with him in the number.
But at the end of the show, only Anna Linstruth, Madison Jordan, Mariah Russell, Sophie Pittman, and Stephanie Sosa were named the Top 5 girls to move onto the live shows. Fans immediately expressed their disapproval afterwards:
Nazz was robbed!! She should have been in the top five instead of bland Sophie!!! #sytycd

Nazz should have been top five. Like #sytycd keeps pushing me further and further away.

I just caught up on last night's ep and I cannot believe they let go of Nazz. A ballroom dancer legitimately killing it in other styles is rare to find #SYTYCD

Nigel was not happy to lose one of his favorites. “I will be honest with you and say we were not unanimous in our choice of the Top 5,” he wrote on Twitter that night. “I lost 2 dancers I would have liked and I’m sure the other judges will say the same thing.”

At least Nazz can try out again next season — just like fellow ballroom dancer Stephanie, who made it to the final 5 this time around after being cut last year. What did you think? Should Nazz have taken someone else’s spot. Use the comment section below to share your thoughts on the matter. And take our poll and pick which of the Top 5 you would replace with Nazz?
