‘So You Think You Can Dance’ top 20 is now in place -who are you most pulling for?

There were some cruel cuts made on episode 7 of the 16th season of “So You Think You Can Dance” this week as the judges were forced to whittle down 64 hopefuls to a mere 20. The ones who didn’t make it that made me the saddest was hip hop girl Dezi Saenz and contemporary dancer Jarrod Tyler Paulson.  On the upside, his sweetheart Madison Jordan sailed on through to next week.

But for every downer, there were several of my favorites who got a thumbs up. Popper Sumi Oshima (see video above), who portrayed herself as a bad girl during her audition, surprised me with her heartfelt emotion and poetic movements as she performed to “Skyscraper” by Demi Lovato.

Then there was the whirling dervish who is b-boy Bailey Munoz, who outdid himself while performing to Four Seasons’ “Beggin.” Unfortunately, his fellow hip-hopper and “Filipino brother,” John John Tarrayo, did not move on.

The guy who I think has all the right moves to win is contemporary specialist Gino Cosculluela, the “Dance Moms” alum whom Maddie Ziegler dissed as a kisser when he was 9. Judge Laurieann Gibson  dubbed him “Baby Baryshnikov,” and the nickname is still appropriate given his grace and strength.

But if I chose with my heart, I would root for tap dancer Eddie Hoyt to claim the title of America’s favorite dancer — the first hoofer to do so since Season 12’s Gabby Diaz. His choice of wearing heavy boots was almost his downfall when a strap came loose. But the way he uses his feet to accentuate the rhythm of the music is mesmerizing. Judge Nigel Lythgoe dinged him for his clunky footwear, but as a fellow tapper, he could not help but send him into the top 20.

Here’s hoping my favorites make it into the top 10 next week when “So You Think You Can Dance” airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
