Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Sophie Turner is entering the episode “Winterfell” from “Game of Thrones” as her 2019 Emmy Awards submission for Best Drama Supporting Actress. This program aired April 14 and was the first episode of the eighth season for the HBO show.
In this installment, the Army of the Dead has breached the Wall, with the Night King commanding the undead. The Northern House with Sansa Stark (Turner) and her allies rally around Winterfell. They do not trust Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and also don’t believe Cersei (Lena Headey) will send troops.
This is the first career Emmy nomination for Turner. For the 2019 contest, she is competing against rookie contenders Julia Garner (“Ozark”) and Fiona Shaw (“Killing Eve”) and three actresses from her own show — Gwendoline Christie, Lena Headey, and Maisie Williams. Headey and Williams have contended before.
