Stephen Root (‘Barry’) 2019 Emmy Awards episode revealed for Best Comedy Supporting Actor (Exclusive)

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Stephen Root is entering the “Barry” episode “berkman > block” as his 2019 Emmy Awards submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actor. This program aired May 19 and was the eighth episode of the second season for the HBO show.

In this season finale, Fuches (Root) is unable to shoot Gene (Henry Winkler) and flees the scene. Barry (Bill Hader) promises to kill Fuches. Seeking protection instead, he brokers a peace between the three gangs. Barry pursues Fuches, who successfully escapes.

It’s the first career nomination for Root. For this year’s contest, he is competing against 2018 champ Henry Winkler and his other “Barry” co-star Anthony Carrigan, plus previous winners Tony Hale (“Veep”) and Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and past nominee Alan Arkin (“The Kominsky Method”).
