‘Survivor’ deleted scene: Rick is losing his mind (and playing with hermit crabs) on Extinction Island [WATCH]

Ever since he was voted out of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” on Day 11, Georgia news anchor Rick Devens has had a hard time adjusting to life at Extinction Island. “I have no idea what’s next on the Edge of Extinction,” he announces in CBS’s latest deleted scene video (watch above). He continues, “It is a weird place out here. You want to keep playing the game but you’re losing your mind because there’s nothing going on.”

In order to keep himself sane on the island, Rick befriends an unlikely ally. “There’s a little hermit crab I found that had no shell,” he explains. “I found him one but it looks a little too big, so I got him a smaller one. I’m hoping he’ll come out and give it a shot.” Rick later adds that helping his new crustacean friend makes “the whole day worthwhile.”

“It’s the monotony of the day that drives you crazy,” Rick readily admits. “In the game you have tree mail to look forward to, then the challenge to look forward to, then tribal to kind of look forward to. I’m ready to do something that makes me feel like I’m still playing ‘Survivor.’ Because right now it doesn’t. It feels like I’m just literally a castaway on a deserted island. It’s enough to drive you crazy.”

Rick was voted out of the fourth episode when his Lesu tribe split into two pairs: Rick and David Wright on one side and Kelley Wentworth and Lauren O’Connell on the other. Fifth cast member Dan “Wardog” DaSilva then became the swing vote and he decided to play with the girls, thereby sending Rick to Extinction Island. However, Rick had no hard feelings for his tribe.

“I’d already been picturing myself eating a burger as I left tribal, but holy crap — I’m still in this!” Rick said after initially arriving at his new home at the Edge of Extinction. “I guess I’m gonna do my best to ingratiate myself to these people who hate me,” Rick remarked about his new island inhabitants Reem Daly, Keith Sowell and Chris Underwood.
