It’s official. Wednesday’s seventh episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” titled “There’s Always a Twist,” will feature the highly anticipated return of one of this season’s voted-out castaways. “Over the years certain moments on ‘Survivor’ have become iconic the moment they happen,” teases Jeff Probst in CBS’s latest preview trailer (watch above). “This might be one of them. Come on in!” he shouts as Reem Daly, Keith Sowell, Chris Underwood, Rick Devens, Aubry Bracco and Wendy Diaz step into the arena with enormous smiles on their faces.
Probst spells it out in no uncertain terms: “One of these six is about to earn their way back into the game.” That essentially answers any and all fan theories about what, exactly, Extinction Island was really about. There had been some speculation that more than one person might return to the game, but Probst’s declaration implies only one of the deserted castaways will still be in the hunt for the $1 million prize … at least for now.
“Oh no!” Kelley Wentworth later screams in a confessional about the twist. This returning player has reason to be upset, since she personally voted out Keith, Chris, Rick and Wendy. If any of those four wins the “Edge of Extinction” challenge, Kelley might become a target in their eyes. Of course, Dan “Wardog” DaSilva and Lauren O’Connell have matched Kelley vote-for-vote this season, so they also could be on thin ice.
Also in the preview trailer, the 12 tribe members of Kama, Manu and Lesu are all seen donning shiny new red buffs following their epic merge into one single tribe. Typically when a merge happens there is a get-to-know-you feast in lieu of a challenge, but this time around the merged players will watch as the six extinct castaways compete in some sort of obstacle course.
Here are two things to remember about Wednesday’s challenge: Chris received an advantage in the form of bamboo rods that he used to practice in advance, while Keith discovered a punishment of extra knots that he promised to give to Chris. Our readers have been voting all week for which castaway they hope returns, and Aubry received the most support. Will they get their wish on Wednesday night?
