Wednesday’s eighth episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” won’t be for the faint of heart, as host Jeff Probst is forced to call for medical assistance during the immunity challenge. At first glance the endurance competition looks like one that’s been played many times before, as the 12 remaining castaways stand still while balancing blocks on their heads. However, one person begins “shaking seconds into this challenge,” then apparently drops to the ground, which requires Jeff to take action. “Medical!” he shouts during the dramatic “Survivor” preview trailer (watch above).
“For one castaway, the game takes a critical turn,” the video clip teases as the show’s doctor is seen hovering over the mystery player. “Can you hear me?” he asks. No hints are given as to who might have taken the tumble in “I’m the Puppet Master,” so it could be any of the Final 12: Victoria Baamonde, Lauren O’Connell, Eric Hafemann, David Wright, Kelley Wentworth, Julie Rosenberg, Gavin Whitson, Rick Devens, Ron Clark, Julia Carter, Dan “Wardog” Dasilva and Aurora McCreary.
Over the past two decades of “Survivor,” a whopping 15 castaways have been evacuated due to medical emergencies, from Season 2’s Michael Skupin (who fell into the fire in “The Australian Outback”) to Season 37’s Pat Cusack (whose back was injured on the boat in “David vs. Goliath”). Will this week’s injured player become the 16th medevac?
Elsewhere in the preview trailer, David is seen complaining about how “Ron and Eric are in control of this tribe.” He then urges the other outnumbered players that they “need to band together and flip this game on its head,” otherwise the Kama six (Julie, Julia, Gavin, Victoria, Ron and Eric) will likely vote them all off one by one.
When Wardog asks Rick where he stands in terms of his vote, the former Extinction Island inhabitant blatantly responds, “I don’t want to get back with you guys at all. You guys tried to vote me out twice. Why would I work with you guys?” Rick is absolutely right — Wardog, Kelley and Lauren voted him out back in the fourth episode and then tried again last week. Should Rick even bother trusting them again?
