Over the first two weeks of “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” a powerful girls alliance has formed on the Lairo tribe with Karishma Patel, Elizabeth Beisel, Missy Byrd, Elaine Stott and Chelsea Walker. That means the remaining four Lairo guys are outnumbered … unless they do something about it. In a sneak peek of Wednesday’s third episode (warning: spoilers ahead), Aaron Meredith hatches a plan to convince Dean Kowalski, Tom Laidlaw and Vince Moua that they need to work together. While most are on board, Vince seems slightly skeptical. Watch CBS’s promo video above.
“The guys never actually talk strategy with me,” Vince admits in a confessional, “and now we’re down in numbers and suddenly now I’m like a bro.” This 27-year-old admissions counselor from California has good reason to question their motives. In the season premiere Vince received two votes from Aaron and Ronnie Bardah (who was eliminated), and then he later blew up at Aaron for his decision.
Ever since Aaron wasn’t told of the plan to vote out Ronnie, he’s been wary of whom to trust at the Lairo camp. “Clearly the girls are really coming together and really bonding,” Aaron notices as the fierce fivesome are roughhousing in the ocean. “That worries me, because there’s four guys, there’s five girls, they can easily get together and say, ‘We can just pick these guys off one at a time. What do we need them for?'” This 36-year-old gym owner from Connecticut continues on, “We need to make sure that tribal dynamic does not happen.”
That can only mean one thing: it’s powwow time! The four men meet up in secret to discuss their plans, with Tom Laidlaw declaring, “Here’s the thing though. If we’re gonna sit here and talk as four guys, we gotta make sure it stays with us.”
When Aaron singles out Vince and asks how he feels about working with the men, he quickly responds, “I’m down. Totally. I mean, at the end of the day they have numbers against us.” How will the guys alliance play out, and will Karishma’s hand injury affect the girls alliance at all? Find out when the third episode airs Wednesday, October 9.
