Joe “Joey Amazing” Anglim might be currently stuck on Extinction Island in the alternative reality-show universe that is the 38th season of CBS’ “Survivor.” But in this world, Anglim just popped the question to his girlfriend, Sierra Dawn Thomas, who he met when they both competed on 2014’s “Survivor: Worlds Apart.”
The now-engaged couple began dating last year and it became clear they were meant for on another. But Sierra, 32, says she had no idea that Joe, 30, was about to make their relationship official. They went to Joe’s sister’s wedding in Arizona and while they were driving back to Utah. They stopped to set up camp for the night.
She told “People” magazine, “We pulled in just as the sun was setting, and we decided to go for a little walk. We found the perfect swinging chair facing the mountains and the mos beautiful sunset. There were even deer running acrss a dirt road!” Out came a bottle of rose and soon they were toasting with clear plastic cups. Sierra didn’t expect anything even though Joe started expounding on how much he loved her.
“But then he got off the swing, reached into his coat, and got on one knee,” she said, “It finally hit me what he was doing. I started crying and he started crying! We both were crying.” She posted a photo of her teardrop-shaped diamond ring on Instagram.
Joe, meanwhile, shared a photo of him kneeling and kissing Thomas’s hand with her new ring.
Joe, who is a self-proclaimed “challenge beast” when it comes to “Survivor,” also appeared on the 31st season of the show, “Survivor: Cambodia –Second Chance.” Considered a physical threat, he often has a target on his back.
Sierra has had a better track record on “Survivor,” coming in 5th place on “Worlds Apart,” when she helped vote Joe off the island. She returned and made it to day 32 on the show’s 34th season, “Survivor: Game Changers,” in 2017. There is no wedding date yet, but wouldn’t it be swell if they exchanged vows during the Season 38 finale that will air on May 15? With host Jeff Probst officiating, of course!
