So far both seasons of CBS’s reality TV show “Celebrity Big Brother” have been won by fierce women, but are you Team Tamar Braxton or Team Marissa Jaret Winokur? Recording artist Tamar prevailed on February 13, 2019 by a unanimous 9-0 vote over NFL superstar Ricky Williams, while Broadway star Marissa won on February 25, 2018 by a 6-3 vote over TV personality Ross Mathews. While Tamar was easily predicted to win Season 2 by Gold Derby readers, Marissa’s victory was a big shocker as we had her in fourth place behind Ross, Omarosa and Ariadna Gutierrez. Even host Julie Chen Moonves told us last year that she thought Ross “deserved to win.” So what happened? As it turned out, Marissa claimed the crown thanks in part to her all-girls alliance with bestie Shannon Elizabeth. Even though Ross played the better strategic game and won more challenges, he simply couldn’t overcome Marissa’s social game.
As for challenge victories, Tamar and Marissa both had reasons to brag. During Tamar’s 29 days in the house she claimed both the Head of Household key and the Veto medallion. Tamar’s HOH reign resulted in Kato Kaelin being sent home, which was a savvy game move as it split up the power duo of Kato and Tom Green. Marissa also won one HOH and one Veto, though her Head of Household victory was the last and most important of the entire game as it allowed her to bring Ross with her to the final two.
Marissa was in the live audience on Wednesday night when Tamar was crowned the winner, as she had just hosted the “Bats the Musical” Head of Household competition for the final five. Filled with tears, Tamar told Julie that she felt “so amazing” for being only the second unanimous winner in the show’s history. “Now I get to buy my baby a house!” Tamar shouted while holding her son.
Neither Tamar nor Melissa took home the extra prize for being “America’s Favorite Houseguest,” as that honor went to Ross in Season 1 and Tom in Season 2. The regular edition of “Big Brother” returns this summer on CBS.
