It’s gonna be ‘Me!’ Taylor Swift will open the 2019 Billboard Music Awards with her new single

Taylor Swift dropped her new single “Me!” featuring Brendon Urie on Friday, April 26 (watch the video above), and the Billboard Music Awards have announced that she will be performing the song with Urie as the opening number for the telecast on Wednesday night, May 1. What do you think of the new song and video?

Swift is the most awarded artist in the history of the Billboard Awards. She has 23 trophies including two for Top Artist of the Year (2013, 2015), which ties her with 50 Cent, Adele, Destiny’s Child and Usher for the most victories in the top category. She has two more bids this year: Top Female Artist and Top Touring Artist. Her “Reputation Stadium Tour” is the highest grossing in US history, according to Billboard Boxscore. Is that, plus her opening performance, a hint that she’ll win the Touring Artist prize?

The Billboard Awards aren’t decided by fans or industry peers voting for their favorites. They’re based on the same metrics that determine the weekly Billboard charts, including record sales, song sales, online streaming performance and radio airplay in addition to touring success.

Swift’s “Me!” collaborator Urie is best known as the lead singer of the band Panic! at the Disco, who have four Billboard nominations this year: Top Duo/Group, Top Rock Artist, Top Rock Album (“Pray for the Wicked”) and Top Rock Song (“High Hopes”). The band was nominated last year for Top Rock Album for “Death of a Bachelor,” but they have yet to win at these awards.

Swift and Urie join a list of artists already announced including Paula Abdul, BTS featuring Halsey, Ciara, Kelly Clarkson, Lauren Daigle, Dan and Shay, Jonas Brothers, Tori Kelly, Khalid, Madonna and Maluma. There will also be a special performance by 2019 Icon Award recipient Mariah Carey. Who are you looking forward to seeing the most at the Billboard kudos?
