“Pose” has struck a — no, we’re not gonna do it — chord with the Television Critics Association Awards, as has “Russian Doll.” The FX and Netflix series lead the 35th Annual TCA Awards nominations with four bids each, including Program of the Year.
The two will vie for the top prize, which also recognizes a show’s cultural impact, against “Chernobyl,” “Fleabag,” “Game of Thrones” and “When They See Us.” “Game of Thrones” previously won the award in 2012 and would join “The Sopranos” and “Breaking Bad” as the only two-time champs in the category.
“Pose,” which is currently airing its second season and was just renewed for a third, and “Russian Doll,” also recently renewed for a sophomore outing, will also face off in Outstanding New Program. The other nominees are “Dead to Me,” “The Other Two,” “Succession” and “What We Do in the Shadows.”

The nomination leaders each nabbed two bids in their respective genre categories as well. “Pose” is up for Outstanding Achievement in Drama opposite “Better Call Saul,” “The Good Fight,” “Homecoming,” “Killing Eve” and “Succession.” Star Billy Porter made the cut in the single gender-neutral Individual Achievement in Drama race, where his competition includes Amy Adams (“Sharp Objects”), Patricia Arquette (“Escape at Dannemora”), Christine Baranski (“The Good Fight”), Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”) and Michelle Williams (“Fosse/Verdon”). Comer was nominated last year alongside co-star and Emmy frontrunner Sandra Oh; the two were the only nominees from last year’s slate who were eligible to return.
“The Americans” swept the drama field last year and also took home Program of the Year, so we are guaranteed new winners in those races.
“Russian Doll” is on the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy shortlist alongside “Barry,” “Fleabag,” 2018 champ “The Good Place,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Schitt’s Creek” and “Veep.” Star and co-creator Natasha Lyonne is up for acting honors against Pamela Adlon (“Better Things”), Bill Hader (“Barry”), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”), Catherine O’Hara (“Schitt’s Creek”) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”). Adlon and Hader are the only returning nominees out of a possible five from last year; defending champ Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) is on the sidelines this time around.
This year’s hosts of the TCA Awards, Desus and Mero, might end the night as winners: Their Showtime series “Desus & Mero” is nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Sketch/Variety Series, a category that was only created last year. The show will look to prevail against reigning winner “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,” “I Think You Should Leave,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
HBO led all networks with 15 nominations, followed by 14 for Netflix and eight for FX. “Fleabag” is the second most nominated show with three bids.
Winners will be announced Saturday, Aug. 3 at a non-televised ceremony.
See the full list of nominees below. Recipients of the Career Achievement and Heritage Awards will be announced at a later date.
