The fight between Rachel Reilly and Elissa Slater, and Nicole Franzel and Victor Arroyo really seeded the the ground for the stateside debut of the U-Turn Vote. Really, you could not have scripted that any better between the train argument and the mat tears. Like, are these two going to vote for any other team to be U-Turned but each other? The vote will be public, so there’s no way to hide behind it or blame others.
Leg 8 once again takes place in Switzerland. The Roadblock will be inspired by William Tell and there is a task involving pulling a cow. Drink if you hear a “My ox is broken!” reference. Nicole and Victor, of course, also have a Speed Bump to complete.
After winning every leg so far, the “Race” teams will look to extend that streak to eight. They were even more dominant last week, claiming the top four spots, while the three non-“Race” teams battled not to be last, which turned out to be moot anyway since it was a non-elimination. Will the Reillys, Vicole or Chris Hammons and Bret LaBelle end the “Race” reign?
Below, check out our minute-by-minute blog of the June 5 episode.
Keep refreshing for the latest updates!
8:00 p.m. – As the winners of the last leg of the race, Tyler and Korey will be the first team to begin leg eight. They’ll stay in Switzerland but drive to the village of Ballenberg where teams will find their first clue.
8:10 p.m. – Rachel is starting the morning off in good spirits knowing that she’s competing in her 32nd leg of “Amazing Race,” which is a record. Now that they’re heading towards a U-Turn vote, that smile could quickly be wiped off her face since every team seems to despise her and her sister Elissa. Meanwhile, Tyler and Korey reach the clue box, but their destination doesn’t open for a couple of hours, which should equalize the race. The Reilly sisters immediately go on the offensive, pulling the Afghanimals aside to try and smooth things over. They apologize and push the blame on Nicole, but Leo and Jamal aren’t really buying the plea.
8:20 p.m. – The teams are set loose in the Ballenberg Community Hall and it’s now time to vote! A U-Turn vote of course! Teams are shocked to learn they’ll have to cast their votes out loud and in front of each other. Two teams will have to complete the U-Turn and Phil warns everyone that there are no more non-elimination legs in the race. Colin/Christie were the first team to secure enough votes to complete the U-Turn, while most other teams had at least one vote against them. Chris/Bret sealed the deal and voted for the Reilly sisters, instigating a major eye roll from Rachel who let them know they just made a million dollar mistake. Now it’s time to race!
8:25 p.m. – In the Detour teams will have to choose to “Make Hay” or “Cow Festival.” Teams will either have to cut grass and properly stack it for hay or dress cows for a festival. Victor/Nicole must first complete a speed bump, which is folding 26 flags which represent the states of Switzerland. Most of the teams look to have chosen the hay challenge so we’ll see how this goes. Over at the cow challenge, the Reilly sisters are first to complete the headpiece for their cow and now they have to lead it to a party. Nicole and Victor finished their flag folding and are back on the main course with the other racers.
8:30 p.m. – Becca and Floyd are the first to complete the Detour and they’ll now drive to Oberschwanden to retrieve their next clue. Chris/Bret, Tyler/Korey and Leo/Jamal are quickly behind. Meanwhile, over at the cow channel, Rachel has learned how to steer her cow by its tail and they’re trying to beat Colin/Christie and Victor/Nicole to the party. They do so successfully, but realize they’ve left their clue back at the table. They decide to leave it behind and wing the other half of the Detour. They ask Colin/Christie if they could read theirs, but Christie respectfully declines.
8:35 p.m. – Tyler/Korey and Team Fun are the first to reach the Road Block. One player on each team will have to learn to use a crossbow to shoot an apple on a Swiss scarecrow’s head. Back at the hay challenge, Colin is beasting his way through and he and Christie quickly pass by Rachel/Elissa. Meanwhile, the Afghanimals appear to be lost on the road they may be another team at risk this week. Over at the Road Block, Bret is the first to land a shot with his cross bow and launches himself and Chris into first place! They’ll have to take a small boat to the next Pit Stop in the beautiful gardens of the Grand Hotel Giessbach. The last team to arrive, WILL be eliminated.
8:45 p.m. – Tyler/Korey are the second team to head out from the Road Block and hope to win their third leg in a row. Meanwhile, Rachel/Elissa are the last team to complete their Detours but are still in good spirits. The Afghanimals are completely lost and have set themselves back about 30-40 minutes driving in the wrong direction. Nicole and Victor arrive at the Road Block and now other teams are beginning to wonder, what happened to the Afghanimals? Colin/Christie are next to arrive at the Road Block and Colin is pumped to shoot things. Rachel/Elissa arrive next and the Afghanimals are officially in last place, although they’ve arrived. This is going to be a showdown!
8:50 p.m. – Chris and Bret are hoping to be the first non “Amazing Race” team to win a leg, but are disheartened to learn they’ll have to engage Tyler and Korey in a foot race to accomplish it. Surely enough, it’s Tyler and Korey who take over the lead and finish in first place for the third leg in a row! They’ve won a seven-night luxury river cruise for two. Chris/Bret land in second place. Back at the Road Block, more teams are finishing up and it’s down to the Reilly sisters and the Afghanimals for last place.
8:59 p.m. – It’s Rachel vs. Jamal and whoever lands a shot first will likely save themselves in this race. It’s Jamal who lands his first and Rachel hits hers shortly after. The typically negative sister is still in high spirits in hopes someone will get lost on the way to the Pit Stop and they’ll still have a chance. Meanwhile, Colin and Christie just finished in third place after a double U-Turn. Wow! They’re going to be hard to beat. Rachel and Elissa did, indeed, finish in last place and they’ve been eliminated from the race. Rachel immediately begins a pity party, but quickly perks up when Elissa reminds her how lucky they’ve been in life. That’s a wrap!
