Just kidding, ‘The Amazing Race 31’ will now premiere earlier with this reality all-star cast

The Amazing Race” has a new start date. Season 31 will bow Wednesday, April 17 at 9/8c, a month earlier than its originally announced May 22 date, CBS announced Friday.

Leading out of “Survivor,” “The Amazing Race” is replacing the low-rated “Million Dollar Mile,” which is now moving to Saturdays at 8/7c, effective May 4.

As “Race” die-hards already know, Season 31, which filmed last summer, is a “reality showdown,” featuring alums from “Race,” “Survivor” and “Big Brother” competing for the $1 million prize. And yes, there are some legends of each game (Colin! Rupert! Janelle! Rachel!). (See the cast list below and check out the gallery above.) The season will cover more than 25,000 miles around the world.

The new premiere date means there’s a chance “The Amazing Race” won’t miss the Emmys this year. Each season typically has 12 legs, but the 10-time Best Competition Series champ has oftentimes aired two-hour episodes, like it did last year when Season 30 aired in January and February.

The academy has also implemented new rules for “hanging episodes” this year, which “Race” will certainly have if it only airs in one-hour installments. Hanging episodes now have to air by the start of nominations voting (June 10 this year) instead of the the end (June 24 this year), but all June episodes can be eligible if shows give advance online access to academy members by the May 31 deadline. So basically, “Race” will need some two-hour episodes to fit everything in.
