Slow and steady wins the race, or at least the Roadblock on Wednesday’s episode of “The Amazing Race.”
Leg 4, a second leg in Ho Chi Minh City, features a scooter Roadblock in which racers have to complete a test course. The course, naturally, isn’t just a racetrack or anything, but small circles and figure eights with arrows specifying which direction to go in. Sounds simple enough, but of course it’s not.
A sneak peek shows two racers tackling the course, Jamal Zadran and Elissa Slater. “It looks really hard, but luckily I have major balance,” Elissa says. Famous last words. She immediately goes out of bounds. Jamal doesn’t have any easier a time doing it, spinning off axis and putting his foot down, automatically disqualifying that attempt. We know he has at least four unsuccessful attempts and Elissa, five.
Based on press photos from the episode, we also know that Janelle Pierzina, Eliza Orlins, Korey Kuhl and Victory Arroyo perform the Roadblock, leaving three teams unaccounted for: Becca Droz and Floyd Pierce, Colin Guinn and Christie Woods, and Chris Hammons and Bret LaBelle. After being saved by the non-elimination leg last week, Chris and Bret also have a Speed Bump to complete this week.
With the Afghanimals and the Reilly sisters being the only teams at the Roadblock in this clip, they could be really far ahead or really far behind. More likely the former since none of them seem to be stressing too much about catching up or anything. Plus, we already know that the Reilly sisters won the Great Taxi Tussle of 2019 over Corinne Kaplan and Eliza Orlins, so they’d at least be ahead of them, provided they do not get lost.
“The Amazing Race” airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on CBS.
