After taking last week off for the expanded “Survivor” finale, “The Amazing Race” returns to CBS on May 22 with back-to-back episodes. The first of these — “I’m a Bird, I’m a Plane, I’m on The Amazing Race” — sees the eight remaining teams travel from Vietnam to the United Arab Emirates.
Will Colin and Christie (“TAR”) pull off another win or will the one-time frontrunners, the Afghaninmals (cousins Leo and Jamal who’ve been on “TAR” before), rally from their sixth place showing? And can Rachel and Elissa (“Survivor”), who barely escaped elimination in leg 4, be ousted this week? Read on for “TAR” spoilers for episode 5.
Leg 5 sees the teams trading the gritty streets of Ho Chi Minh City for the glamor of Dubai, the capital of the UAE. Among the tasks they must complete is one at the famed Dino Park. Burdened down by their Tyrannosaurus rex costumes, teams race around the park to collect five different colored glowing eggs. Another task sees them take to the night sky and zipline.
Of the eight teams left, four of them are “Race” alumni, three appeared on “Big Brother.” and just one competed on “Survivor.” Based on sightings reported on social media we know that Rachel and Elissa (“Survivor”)are last to the mat but get spared when Phil Keoghan reveals this is a non-elimination leg.
This result leaves eight teams still in the race for the one million dollars. Who will be eliminated next? Episode 6, “Who Wants a Rolex?,” takes the teams from the desert of Dubai to the jungles of Uganda. This episode will also air on Wednesday, May 22.
