The Clairvoyants didn’t rank among the top 12 acts on “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” But they still made it to the finale, where they performed an epic mind-reading trick with Howie Mandel. In the video above, watch this double act from Austria wow the crowd with their abilities in the episode that airs on NBC on February 18.
We had thought that the duo, Thommy Ten and Amélie van Tass, would have done better in this spin-off of “America’s Got Talent.” After all they place second in season 11 of the show, right behind child singer Grace VanderWaal.
They were part of the line-up on the first audition episode of “AGT: The Champions.” After “Britain’s Got Talent” runner-up Susan Boyle got the Golden Buzzer from Mel B, their only hope to make it into the final was to win enough votes from the superfans. But the competition was fierce and they didn’t even figure in the top 3 (comedian Preacher Lawson made the cut over season 1 “AGT” winning singer Bianca Ryan and contortionist Sofie Dossi.
In our live blog of that episode, we said this about their performance: “They asked all four judges on stage for readings about their love lives! Simon picked a postcard of a destination city, Heidi selected a candle from a table, Howie wrote about a dream date on a board and Mel was asked to take care of a secret box. With their selections secret back at the judges’ table, the Clairvoyants successfully guessed Heidi’s candle, Simon’s city and Howie’s written phrase!”
“Lastly, Mel opened the box to reveal a remote control that when played on the screen showed The Clairvoyants earlier in the day predicting the three things the judges had selected! The judges’ minds were blown though the performance itself was pretty slow and dragged. Heidi reminded them that they were one of her favorites two years ago and Simon, gobsmacked, said it’s a step up from what they achieved as runner-ups and urged Mel to use her Golden Buzzer on them (she didn’t).”
