They’re baaack! After a three week hiatus because of the World Series, Fox’s wild and wacky reality TV show “The Masked Singer” finally returned to the schedule Wednesday night. To make up for lost time, fans were treated with TWO back-to-back episodes. In the first hour, Fox, Flower, Ladybug, Penguin, Rottweiler and Tree competed to remain on the show and keep their true identities hidden for another day. In the second hour, we saw the return of Black Widow, Butterfly, Flamingo, Leopard and Thingamajig, who last took the stage as a group on October 16. So which two costumed characters were unmasked this week?

8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘The Masked Singer’!” In the fifth episode, the in-studio audience and panelists (Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke) voted for their favorite performances, with Skeleton getting the least number of votes. After the judges made such guesses such as Jon Cryer, Dana Carvey and Martin Short, Skeleton removed his mask to reveal musician Paul Shaffer. “I had the most fun I’ve ever had in my life,” Shaffer proclaimed in his post-show interview. Eleven contestants are left. Which two will leave the show tonight?
8:10 p.m. — The soulful singing sensation Rottweiler is up first. He’s been judged since he’s “been in the game” and this show is revealing that he’s capable of making it on his own and he “wants it that way.” Perhaps this is a Backstreet Boy? Everything started for him with musical theater and makeup, but considering how versatile he hasn’t been fully recognized until now. Tonight he’s singing “Love Runs Out” by OneRepublic. Rottweiler sounds great on this song and is definitely proving to be a seasoned vocalist. He’s got quite a range and a fun stage presence. Nicole says his live vocals sound like a record. Robin still thinks it’s Brian Littrell, but Jenny thinks its Kevin Jonas. Ken thinks they’re being tricked with clues referring to boy bands and he thinks Rottweiler is Pat Monahan of Train. As his final clue, Rottweiler says his heroes growing up were Bruce Lee and Boyz II Men. I think it could be someone from Backstreet Boys we haven’t seen as much of – perhaps Howie Dorough?
8:20 p.m. — Ladybug is up next and she says this experience reminds her of her childhood, when everything on the outside looked rosy, but in reality her world was completely upside down. We see clues that she’s been a host and this experience allows her to show “pieces of me.” Tonight Ladybug is performing “Juice” by Lizzo and she’s bringing the fierceness. She’s got a bit of rasp in her voice and is definitely bringing the soul. Ladybug has a newfound confidence since last week and the judges are noticing. Robin thinks perhaps Ladybug’s parent was a host. Jenny guesses Paris Jackson, Ken thinks its Lindsey Lohan. As a final clue, Ladybug says the queens of the world taught her how to be a lady. Jenny thinks that means “divas” but to me it seems like she hangs out with drag queens. Nicole puts out Ashlee Simpson‘s name because her mother-in-law is Diana Ross.
8:30 p.m. — We continue on with Tree who we see playing piano in her introduction package. She continues dropping Christmas clues and says her parents never made her feel like she was left “home alone.” Next we see an image of the White House. Could this be a former president’s kid? Or perhaps she’s performed there? Tree breaks into “Think” by Aretha Franklin when she hits the stage and the judges are shocked by her soulful vocals and range. Wow! Tree has some serious pipes. Nicole guesses Amy Sedaris because she was in “Elf.” Ken thinks Zooey Deschanel while Robin says Rachael Ray and Jenny throws out Padma Lakshmi‘s name. Tree admits she has been a brand ambassador and it does relate to food. I’m stumped!
9:45 p.m. — Up next is Penguin who has been counted out before, but she always keeps his head up. As a kid, she was on the D-List but as she grew up she realized the brightest stars come from tragedy. She stood up and took control, making people laugh. She references “The Office” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” so she’s been on some sitcoms. Singing “All Abouth That Base by Meghan Trainer, she’s clearly not a trained singer and I think she sounds like Sherri Shepherd. I’m convinced about this one! She moves well on stage and seems to be having fun and the more I see the more I’m certain this is Sherri. Jenny agrees it’s her former co-host on “The View,” but also mentions Nicole Byer. Nicole doesn’t think it sounds like Sherri, but possibly Starr Jones. Robin throws out Wanda Sykes and Mindy Kaling, but Penguin gives a final clue about being in any relationships with many of the presidents. I’m sticking with Jenny on this one.
10:00 p.m. — Flower is up next and I think it’s pretty obvious this is Patti LaBelle. Flower says she’s never taken a voice lesson in her life and her talent bloomed early on. Tonight she’s planning to throw everyone off even more by singing a song that’s not in her wheelhouse. With “Cheap Thrills” Patti, I mean Flower, starts off quietly without her signature belts. It’s obvious she’s trying to hide her boisterous vocals. It’s unfortunate because there’s nothing like hearing Ms. Patti blow! Ken is doubling down that Flower is Bjork, which is just an absurd suggestion. Nicole considers Shirley Bassey and Jenny guesses Anita Baker. After Flower reveals her favorite band is Kings of Leon, Robin gives one final prediction of Jennifer Hudson.
10:00 p.m. — It’s time for Fox, who has been incredible on stage thus far but says he didn’t always fit in and kids weren’t so nice to him growing up. He mentions “Shazam” and “Fast and Furious” while mentioning how he transforms. We also see a drawing of Fox holding an Emmy. Tonight Fox is singing “Hey Look Ma, I Made It” by Panic! At the Disco. Even in full costume Fox has great presence and flawless vocals. Could this be Jamie Foxx? He even busts a few sexy dance moves. Robin says his singing reminds him of AJ McLean from Backstreet Boys. Ken agrees with me on Jamie and Nicole says Ne-Yo. As a final clue, Fox says he’s spent most of his life in costume, but as a child he imagined he’d be in a uniform.
10:05 p.m. — It’s time to find out who will be the first singer unmasked tonight. The character with the least votes in group one is Penguin. So what are the final guesses from the panel? Jenny says Nicole Byer. Ken says Wanda Sykes. Nicole thinks it’s Starr Jones. Robin puts his final bet on Mindy Kaling. I think it’s definitely Sherri Shepherd. Come on Jenny! As Penguin reveals herself, we discover it is in fact Sherri Shepherd!
10:15 p.m. — Anthony Anderson is joining as a guest judge for group two and we’re kicking things off with Black Widow. She says she feels at home in her costume, but she can make herself at home in any nook or cranny. She mentions Memphis and Bel Air while showing off banners that say “Scrub” and “Misdemeanor.” She refers to herself as a hot homemaker before taking the stage with “Believe” by Cher. There’s a slight rasp and some serious soul in Black Widow’s voice and she definitely sounds seasoned. I’m completely confused about this one. Robin is sticking with Raven Symone while Ken goes way off track with Miranda Lambert. As a special revealing item, Black Widow shows off whipped cream and crackers, saying she’s spun webs around these tasty treats. Anthony guesses Drew Barrymore? I don’t think so.
10:25 p.m. — The Thingamajig is up next and he says he’s used to his voice winning over the ladies. We see him at a large dinner table filled with gummy worms while he says he likes to “break bread with the homies” after putting on a good show. His pops taught him how to serenade the ladies and we see random shoes everywhere — including one being dipped in tomato soup! He hits the stage with “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by The Temptations and this tall monster has some serious swagger. I love his voice and it’s more intriguing because the clues lead us to believe he’s not a professional singer. This is a more fun side of Thingamajig and the crowd loves him. The panel throws out guesses like Montell Jordan, Tony Parker, Dennis Rodman and Ronnie DeVoe. His revealing item was a sign language dictionary. He says this book taught him how to communicate with others.
10:35 p.m. — Butterfly is ready to perform and we catch her taking a phone call from her mother at the beginning of her package. I’ve been convinced this is Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child since I first saw her so let’s see if the clues line up. Becoming the Butterfly has reignited a love she’s had since she was seven years old. She references “Joyful Noise” and we see a certificate of car salesman of the year. We also see more clues referring to London but she doesn’t have an accent. Tonight she’s singing “Don’t Know Why” by Norah Jones. She has a slight rasp to her voice and I’m still convinced it’s Michelle. She’s got a soothing voice with solid range and versatility. Guesses from the panel include Michelle, Leona Lewis and Norah Jones. Her revealing item is a forensic kit, to which she reveals she once had the chance to choose life or death!
10:40 p.m. — Up next is Leopard, who I’m convinced is Seal playing up his character with eccentric body movement. He reveals traveled on the road with his friends as a youngster, has played jazz and performed at the White House. We see a reference to “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” which is a Lenny Kravitz song but I think that’s just meant to throw people off. Tonight Leopard is singing “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry and he’s looking as royal as ever. This is one of my favorite characters because he’s really into it. Vocally, I can’t imagine it being anyone but Seal. This performance was fun, but he could have done more vocally with the song. The panel guesses Bobby Brown, Billy Porter and Tyler Perry. His revealing item is a trio of old cameras. He says he spends much of his time in front of the lens, but he loves being behind the camera.
10:50 p.m. — Closing out tonight’s show is Flamingo. Her story isn’t all fantasy and years ago she started hating the sound of her own voice. Being on stage became one of her biggest fears. Now she’s reminded now that she can do it all — and she’s danced, sung and acted her way to the top. She’s anything but basic! Tonight Flamingo is singing “Never Enough” by Loren Allred. She’s got a gorgeous tone and I can’t recognize it! This is definitely a grand finale and Flamingo is killing it pure diva style! Sing Flamingo! The panel is floored and some of their guesses include Fantasia, Adrienne Bailon and Pink. For her revealing item, Flamingo shows off a NAACP Image Award she won.
10:59 p.m. — It’s time to reveal who the next unmasked singer will be! The performer with the least amount of votes is Black Widow. Wow! This competition is getting tough. For their final guesses Nicole says Raven Symone, Robin says Raven as well, Anthony thinks it’s Drew Barrymore, Jenny sticks with Amber Riley and Ken round things out with Miranda Lambert. Finally Black Widow reveals herself to be Raven Symone! That’s a wrap for tonight.
