“After my last performance, the panel’s glowing comments about my voice put me on cloud nine,” Lion admitted in the third episode of “The Masked Singer” before adding, “Now I feel like I could be a front-runner.” Gold Derby’s readers agree, as Lion dominated our recent poll that asked which of the Top 10 costumed celebrities deserved to win Season 1 of Fox’s reality TV show. For her encore performance, Lion took on Nina Simone‘s “Feeling Good” and once again had judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke on their feet. Watch the performance above.
Lion continued, “I’ve always loved to sing, but the anonymity of the mask has made me feel truly courageous. For me, using my voice to help others has always been very important. I tell my pride you have to be strong and stand up for what you believe in. So tonight I’m gonna give it all I got and sing my heart out, because this lion is going to win!”
After Lion’s performance Jenny asked, “Do you currently have a platinum album?” The audience waited on pins and needles for Lion to respond, and she finally confessed, “I have nothing gold or platinum on my walls … yet.” Do you think Lion could still be Rumer Willis, as many fans suspect?
Guest judge Joel McHale, who worked with Ken on “Community,” told Lion, “That performance was like a huge, sexy belt buckle out there. This is of course my first show, but it’s really great. You’re way more talented than Ken Jeong.”
As the audience chuckled, Ken quickly responded, “No, this is not about me! Actually I never could [do this]. Your performance is so powerful. I’m just trying to figure out who you are. I am part of your pride. How about that?”
In his “The Masked Singer” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about Lion’s performance: “From the clues, Lion seems like someone who is politically involved and has walked in some marches. But not much else was revealed. She’s singing ‘Feeling Good’ by Nina Simone and sounds fantastic. She started out veiled behind behind some jewels before sashaying her way to the front of the stage. Vocally and visually Lion is slaying it tonight.”
