‘The Masked Singer’ preview: You still haven’t met these 8 costumed celebs

Season 2 of “The Masked Singer” has officially kicked off, with two contestants already being unmasked in front of America: Group A’s Johnny Weir as Egg and Group B’s Ninja as Ice Cream. The two-hour season premiere introduced audiences to eight costumed celebrities, but that’s just half the roster. The other eight — Black Widow, Eagle, Flamingo, Flower, Fox, Leopard, Panda and Penguin — will be doled out over the next couple weeks in two groups of four.

Group C will perform Wednesday, October 2 and consists of Black Widow, Flamingo, Leopard and Panda. Group D takes the stage Wednesday, October 9 and includes Eagle, Flower, Fox and Penguin. Get your first look at all of the Season 2 cast members in our photo gallery above.

In the premiere episode, Group A’s two match-ups were Butterly vs. Egg and Skeleton vs. Thingamajig. Butterfly won the audience vote for its performance of “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj, while Thingamjig prevailed thanks to “Easy” by Commodores. The two also-rans then faced off in a smackdown, with Egg performing “One Way or Another” by Blondie to Skeleton’s winning rendition of “Hard to Handle” by Otis Redding.

Group B’s two face-offs on premiere night were Ladybug vs. Rottweiler and Tree vs. Ice Cream. Ladybug performed “Holding Out for a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler, which lost the audience vote to “Maneater” by Hall & Oates. Tree then shook its branches to “High Hopes” by Panic! at the Disco, winning over Ice Cream’s rendition of “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. The smackdown resulted in Ice Cream (“Whip It” by Devo) losing to Ladybug (“Hit Me with Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar).

The Season 2 panelists are Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke, while Nick Cannon is back as host. Last season’s winner was T-Pain, who dressed up as the Monster and belted out iconic tunes by Queen, Gavin Degraw, Lenny Kravitz, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Sam Smith and Montell Jordan. Who was your favorite of the first eight costumed celebs, and which unseen contestant are you most looking forward to meeting?
