Fox’s fun new reality TV show “The Masked Singer” revealed its second celebrity contestant at the end of Wednesday’s episode. The series, which dresses up celebs in elaborate costumes and then makes them sing in front of a live audience, returned with three separate face-offs: Rabbit vs. Alien, Raven vs. Pineapple and Poodle vs. Bee. Unfortunately, Pineapple lost his battle and was then voted out by the judges, so he was forced to unmask himself in dramatic fashion, revealing comic legend Tommy Chong (watch above). Did YOU guess that it was Chong inside the Pineapple costume singing Gloria Gaynor‘s “I Will Survive”?
Of the four judges — Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke — only McCarthy was savvy enough to guess that the Grammy-winning Chong was hiding behind the mask, thanks in part to his laid-back attitude. She also guessed it could be his comic partner Cheech Marin or singing superstar Willie Nelson.
As for the other judges, Thicke predicted Sugar Ray Leonard, Jeong thought it was Jimmy Buffett and Scherzinger opted for Kid Rock. When Chong removed his Pineapple head, McCarthy shouted, “No! Way! Oh my freaking god! Yes! I can’t even believe that I guessed him!”
Host Nick Cannon asked Chong what made him dress up like a Pineapple on national TV, and Chong replied, “Anything to get on stage.” Chong followed the reveal of last week’s masked celebrity, Pittsburgh Steelers football player Antonio Brown, who was the first contestant to be eliminated from Fox’s reality TV show.
There are 10 costumed characters still in the running to win Season 1 of “The Masked Singer.” Six of those won their head-to-head match-ups — Lion, Peacock and Unicorn in Episode 1 and Bee, Rabbit and Raven in Episode 2 — while four were in danger of going home after losing their battles — Deer and Monster last week and Alien and Poodle this week. Who do YOU think will be named the ultimate winner?
