Episode 3 of “The Masked Singer” saw the return of the five celebrities from week one — the Deer, Lion, Monster, Peacock and Unicorn — who had earned enough votes after they sang to stay in the competition. They again climbed into their elaborate costumes and took to the stage to perform a hit song. One of them, the Deer, fell short in the vote count and was unmasked: he turned out to be NFL legend Terry Bradshaw. We don’t know who the other four are but have been making our best guesses based on the clues they gave. Read on for our spoiler as to the true identity of the Lion.
Before stepping on to the stage to sing “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone, the Lion gave us some more tantalizing clues about her real self. These, along with the ones she gave on episode one on Jan 2, make us even more sure that we know who is lurking beneath that lion costume: Rumer Willis.
She admitted that the panel’s positive feedback on the first show, when she sang “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody” (All We Got) by Fergie had put her on “cloud nine.” She then revealed, “for me, using my voice to help others has always been very important.” Rumer has been very vocal about social justice and has taken part in various protest marches over the years.
The Lion explained, “I tell my pride you have to be strong and stand up for what you believe in.” She has four sisters and is the middle of three daughters of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. At the end of the clues video, she is seen holding a newspaper with a headline that reads “Gold found in Hailey.” Her parents invested heavily in the small ski resort town of Hailey, Idaho.
After her performance on Wednesday, the Lion roared, “I have nothing gold or platinum on my walls….yet!” That admission rules out the possibility that she is a recording artist. And judge Nicole Scherzinger, who had hits as part of the Pussycat Dolls, says she doesn’t think that the Lion is a professionally trained singer.
As for her choice of costume: Rumer was born on August 16, so that makes her a Leo (as in lion). Numbering among her 22 tattoos was one of the face of a lion that filled her upper left arm. And she recently appeared on the Fox drama “Empire,” which is centered around the lives of the Lyon family.
We won’t find out for sure if Rumer is the Lion till she is unmasked. That will only happen if she loses a match-up or wins the show. Do you think we are right about the true identity of the Lion? Sound off in the comments section with your best guesses.
