‘The Masked Singer’ spoiler: The Monster is …

We’d already seen the Monster perform three times on “The Masked Singer” before his appearance in the quarter-final on February 13. Between his singing and the clues he gave, we had a pretty strong hunch as to the name of the celebrity hiding inside that elaborate costume. His performance on Wednesday confirmed our suspicions.  Spoilers ahead.

The Monster is the rapper T-Pain. From 2006 to 2011, he enjoyed a string of chart toppers. Then the tide turned against him because of his use of Auto Tune. T-Pain is the middle of a comeback and this show is a great showcase that allows him to show off his singing voice.

The Monster has already triumphed with a trio of tunes including his most recent, Lenny Kravitz‘s version of “American Woman.” Prior to that he had the crowd standing for his covers of the Queen classic “Don’t Stop Me Now” and “I Don’t Want To Be” by Gavin DeGraw. That latter performance ended with an electrifying falsetto note.

WEEK SIX SPOILERS: Who are the Bee, Peacock

The Monster said he chose this costume “because that’s what the world labelled me.” Remember, T-Pain’s career went into a slump earlier this decade. He admitted he was doing the show in order “to re-write my mixed tape to prove that I am more than just puff and fluff.”

WEEK FIVE SPOILERS: Who are the Alien, LionRabbit

We won’t find out for sure if T-Pain is the Monster till he is unmasked. That will only happen if he loses the audience vote or wins the show. Do you think we are right about the true identity of the Monster? Sound off in the comments section with your best guesses.
