Fox has a huge hit with “The Masked Singer,” a new reality competition series adapted from the South Korean series of the same name. Host Nick Cannon introduces celebrity contestants who perform songs while completely hidden in animal costumes. Part of the fun is guessing which famous faces are hidden behind these elaborate masks. We learned the identity of one of the first six stars at the end of Wednesday’s premiere when the Hippo was revealed to be Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown after he received the fewest amounts of votes and was sent packing.
The other five famous folk move on in the competition. But who are they? We’ve analyzed the clues that they gave to their identities as well as the comments of the four judges (Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke). We’ve already posted our theories on who the three winners of the sing-offs — the Peacock, Lion and Unicorn — really are.
Next, we turn our attention to one of the acts who lost a sing-off but won enough votes to avoid elimination, the Deer. He was one of the final two to perform, and tackled “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons” (Watch his stirring performance in the video above.) So, who is this hidden talent?
Forget that misleading speculation by judges Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy that it could be WWE wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin or MMA fighter Chuck Liddell hidden inside.
We are all but certain that the Deer is former NFL wide receiver Eric Decker.
Let’s break down the clues he gave before singing:
“I’ve always considered myself a singer” – Decker did a duet with his country singer wife Jessie James on the Christmas classic “Baby It’s Cold Outside” that went viral three years ago.
“I’ve been knocked down many times” – As a wide receiver, he was often the target of the opposing team’s tacklers.
“In the wild wild west you learn how to get up and get back in the saddle” – Decker played on the Denver Broncos for four seasons from 2010 to 2013.
“Ravens beware; I am here to win” – After being released by the New York Jets in 2017, Decker flirted with the idea of signing with the Baltimore Ravens. In the end, he inked a deal with the Tennessee Titans.
We won’t find out for sure if Eric is the Deer till he is unmasked. That will only happen if he loses the audience vote or wins the show. Do you think we are right about the true identity of the Deer? Sound off in the comments section with your best guesses.
