Another six stars took to the stage on the second episode of “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday (Jan. 9). Each of these half dozen famous faces was hidden behind an elaborate mask. After all six performed while clad in a head-to-toe costume, the contestant with the lowest score was eliminated. That turned out to be the Pineapple, who was revealed to be comic Tommy Chong.
We won’t know who the other five contestants are till they are eliminated or, in the case of one of them, win the show. If you can’t wait till then to find out, then keep reading. We’ve analyzed the clues that each gave to their identities before they performed as well as the comments of the four judges (Ken Leong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke).
She performed in the final of the three match-ups and had the whole crowd dancing to “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar. (Watch her electrifying performance in the video above.) So, who is this hidden talent?
Forget that wild speculation by judge Jenny McCarthy that it could be RuPaul or Russell Simmons.
We are all but certain that the Poodle is the stand-up and actress Margaret Cho.
Let’s break down the clues she gave before singing:
“I chose the Poodle because like me, they’re sassy, smart and best in show” – Cho is well-known for expressing her well-reasoned opinions on a variety of controversial topics.
“415. Stand up” – That is the area code of San Francisco, and Cho got her start performing routines in comedy clubs in the Bay area.
“My whole career has been about exercising my right to free speech” – Cho had a short-lived sitcom “All American Girl” that fell victim to network interference.
Nicole was spot on when she observed during the clue video that the Poodle was standing in front of a rainbow flag backdrop; Cho is openly bisexual.
She has dabbled in singing over the years. Her 2010 disc “Cho Dependent” featured 16 songs and was nominated for a Grammy as Best Comedy Album.
The Poodle certainly unleashed her confidence as she strutted around the stage. Cho has performed a burlesque act over the years, which combines her love of singing and dance.
We won’t find out for sure if Cho is the Poodle till she is unmasked. That will only happen if she loses the audience vote or wins the show. Do you think we are right about the true identity of the Poodle? Sound off in the comments section with your best guesses.
