“The Masked Singer” episode on November 13 ended with the elimination of one of the five celebrities who sang while dressed as a Flower, Fox, Ladybug, Rottweiler and Tree. Of this quintet, the Tree has one of the strongest stage presences. She has impressed the four judges (Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke) with both her singing and dancing.
The Tree shone on the premiere with a stand-out cover of “High Hopes” by Panic! at the Disco. The Tree returned to compete in week 5 and wowed once again with her version of “Think” by Aretha Franklin. We’ve been busy trying to figure out which famous face is hidden by the Tree mask. We think we now know so keep reading for the fifth of this week’s “The Masked Singer” spoilers.
The Tree is Ana Gasteyer, the long-time star of “Saturday Night Live.” This is based on her clues videos, her performances and her commentary on each episode.
In her video, we see a shot of Public Storage locker with the number 30; 30 Rock is the address of the “SNL” studios. Gasteyer’s six-year run on that long-running series would also account for the black-and-white TV seen in the video.
The Tree says she is hoping to “jazz up” her career. Gasteyer released a jazz album, “I’m Hip,” back in 2014.
Those references to baking are a sly reference to one of Gasteyer’s most famous characters from “SNL” – Margaret Jo McCullin, host of the NPR radio show “The Delicious Dish.”
As for being dressed as a Christmas tree, Gasteyer just dropped a new holiday disc, “Sugar and Booze.”
Collectively, the contestants have been on Broadway 22 times. Gasteyer has appeared in four Broadway shows: “The Rocky Horror Show,” “The Royal Family,” “The Threepenny Opera” and “Wicked.”
We’ll only find out if our guess is right when the Tree is unmasked. This will be either when the Tree leaves the show or wins season 2. Who do you think is hidden inside the Tree costume?
