We can’t make up our minds about just who is hiding inside that Rabbit costume on “The Masked Singer.” He has rocked the crowd with four very different songs so far: “Livin’ la Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin, “Wake Me Up” by Avicii, “Poison” by Bell Biv DeVoe and “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder. The Rabbit has readily admitted, “I’ve spent most of my life on stage, but I was never alone” and “synchronized singing was my forte.”
With that in mind, we have narrowed the hunt for the Rabbit down to two men who came to fame as part of a boy band. After you read our case for each of these, cast your vote in our poll as to which one you think it is. Spoilers ahead.
We are all but certain that the Rabbit was a member of NSYNC. Consider the clues he has given:
The Rabbit has said that “the last man standing, it’s gonna be me.” NSYNC scored their only chart topper with”It’s Gonna Be Me,” a track from their second studio album “No Strings Attached.”
And the Rabbit declared, “I knew I would thrive behind this mask and I knocked it out of the amusement park.” NSYNC got their start performing in theme parks in Orlando, Florida.
As to which of the five fellows from NSYNC is the Rabbit, we are convinced it is either JC Chasez or Joey Fatone. After you read our reasons for each, vote in our poll as to your pick. “I pop up here, and I pop up there” could apply to either of them. Both Joey and JC have kept busy since the group split back in 2002 with various TV and record projects. Joey has hosted reality competitions such as “The Singing Bee.” And JC was a judge on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” for seven seasons.
Several years after the group split in 2002, JC released a solo album, “Schizophrenic,” which would explain the shot we saw of the Rabbit in a straitjacket.
The Rabbit said, “every week I get to cook up something new for you all.” Joey has hosted the Food Network show “Rewrapped” and Live Well Network’s “My Family Recipe Rocks.”
