Monday’s episode of “The Voice” ended with a shocking cliffhanger as 20-year-old James Violet had to choose between either staying on Team Gwen Stefani or jumping ship to Team John Legend. We won’t find out who he picks until Tuesday night, but in the meantime watch “The Voice” battle video above and give us your personal theories about who James picks below.
How did we get here anyway? It all started when Gwen paired up James and 22-year-old Kyndal Inskeep in a battle to “I Could Use a Love Song.” “I’ve always had my heart wrapped around Kyndal because she has the kind of voice that is so unique,” Gwen told her two artists after they finished performing. “And James, I don’t think that I realized how unique and interesting your voice was until we got in the room together. I forgot you were so young. You’re 20. You haven’t even drank yet.”
As the audience chuckled, Gwen continued, “So with all that being said, I’m super torn. I’m going to say the winner of this battle is Kyndal.” As Kyndal started celebrating backstage, both Gwen and John slammed their hands down on their buttons to keep James in the competition.
John informed James he wanted to steal him as soon as he “heard the magic” in his voice. Gwen then confessed it was her plan “this whole time” to save James at this stage of the competition. “I’m just so proud of you,” she stated before revealing she was “terrified” the talented singer was going to pick John instead. Find out how this battle wraps up Tuesday night on NBC.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the battle: “After a rough start in their rehearsals, Kyndal and James pulled it together for their battle and aced a song they hadn’t known prior to being handed it. Though they have different tones and approaches to the song they sounded excellent together and both made a strong case for deserving to remain in the competition. Gwen decided to stick with her gut and kept Kyndal!”
