Blind auditions are almost over for Season 17 of “The Voice.” A few more singers will be chosen on the one-hour episode for Tuesday. Next Monday will feature the final contestants to be chosen and then a jump right into the battle rounds. Enjoy our live updating blog below for Night 6 of blind auditions tonight and for Night 1 on September 23, Night 2 on September 24, Night 3 on September 30, Night 4 on October 1 and Night 5 on October 7 to see what’s happened so far. Who are your favorite artists to be chosen this year?
John Legend is the reigning champ among coaches, winning last spring for his first season on the NBC reality TV show. Kelly Clarkson was the winning coach for Season 14 and Season 15. They are up against six-time winner Blake Shelton and returning coach Gwen Stefani, who has yet to have a winning singer. Longtime coach Adam Levine is missing his first season ever for the program.

And in major news for the show, Taylor Swift will be the Season 17 mentor for the knockouts in a few weeks.

8:10 p.m. — No time is wasted as we get started right away with 44-year old Myracle Holloway kicking off tonight’s blind auditions. Myracle has had experience touring, but drug addiction and personal issues sidelined her talent. After rehabilitating herself she’s ready to go back to her passion and hopes to turn a chair on “The Voice.” Singing “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars, Myracle shows off a fragile, yet soulful voice that definitely has a unique tone. When she hits the chorus her power inspires Blake to hit his button, quickly followed by Gwen. Blake loves that she sounds like she’s about to start crying when she sings, which is a gift. Gwen can relate to how Myracle puts her pain into her music. After careful consideration, Myracle decides to join Team Gwen!
8:25 p.m. — The second artist on the stage tonight is Ricky Braddy, a 36-year old singer who grew up singing gospel, but has changed course after coming out as a gay man. Tonight he’s singing “The Story” by Brandi Carlile and he’s got a powerful voice, sounding a bit Broadway to me. As he kicks things into high gear Blake and John turn their chairs quickly followed by Gwen. Despite loving the song choice, Kelly holds back. John loves the gospel flares in Ricky’s voice while Gwen enjoys his theatrical delivery. Blake has resorted to simply begging Ricky to join his team at this point. Ricky thinks it over and makes Blake’s day by joining his team! John is crushed and can’t believe he lost that one.
8:30 p.m. — The third artist of the night walks on stage and Kelly is beginning to realize it’s been a while since she turned her chair. Perhaps 16-year old Damali will do the trick. Damali attends a military high school because most schools in her neighborhood don’t have the best reputations. Singing “Ocean Eyes,” Damali gives off an indie singer/songwriter vibe but the coaches don’t seem convinced she’s got the goods. Then, at the very last second, Kelly spins around and takes Danali for herself, uncontested.
8:35 p.m. — Teams are filling up fast and coaches are starting to get picky, but Kelly can’t resist turning her chair when the next artist begins belting out one of her favorite songs, “Up to the Mountain.” We see the singer is Steve Knill, a soulful artist that’s full of range who is actually doing Kelly’s version of this song. None of the other coaches could be persuaded so Kelly gets another artist on her team without having to put up a fight.
8:40 p.m. — The next artist to perform is 23-year old Destiny Rayne, a waitress living in Nashville who is also a songwriter. Tonight she’s singing “To Make You Feel My Love” by Adele and she’s got a much more mature voice than I expected when I heard her speak. Midway through the performance John turns his chair and Gwen follows moments later. Gwen admits to being intimidated by John, but she didn’t want to let him stop her from turning around. After giving her best pitch, Gwen’s fears proved valid as Destiny quickly chose John as her coach.
8:50 p.m. — Up next is Jo James, a 31-year old from Austin who has a new lease on life after formerly weighing over 300 pounds. He’s been playing music since he was just eight years old but began gaining weight in middle school and battled depression. His wife inspired him to lose weight and now he’s hoping to move forward with his life by turning a chair on “The Voice.” The coaches get excited when Jo begins singing “It Ain’t Over Til’ It’s Over” by Lenny Kravitz, but with their teams nearly full, they’re still reluctant. Sadly, none of them turned around and Jo will be heading home early.
8:59 p.m.— Hoping for better luck is Khalea Lynee, a 36-year old mother of two who has put music on the back burner after having kids. She’s singing “Best Part” and within seconds both Blake and Kelly turn around. John quickly follows and these coaches are hooping and hollering throughout Khalea’s performance. Finally Gwen joins the party and we finally have a four-chair turn! Kelly looks like she’ll die if she doesn’t get Khalea on her team but John looks like he’s ready to put up a fierce fight. After Khalea confesses Anita Baker is her favorite singer, Gwen screams that Anita Baker was the first album her dad bought her. Blake begs Khalea to join his team, but after John starts singing to her she just can’t resist his charm. Khalea joins Team Legend and John’s team is absolutely stacked! That’s a wrap for tonight.
