Last week Gwen Stefani‘s entire team survived a two-person elimination on “The Voice” when Joana Martinez, Rose Short and Myracle Holloway all made it into the Top 11. This week things aren’t looking so good for Team Gwen as Joana is predicted to be eliminated during Tuesday’s live results show. Gold Derby readers give Joana leading 1/3 odds to be eliminated, with Will Breman of Team John Legend and Shane Q of Team Kelly Clarkson also on the bubble. Do you agree or disagree with those racetrack odds? Sound off down in the comments section.
For her “fan week” performance on Monday, birthday girl Joana took on “Dreaming of You” and received a standing ovation from her current coach Gwen and her former coach Blake Shelton. “I can’t think of a dumber decision I’ve made in the history of this show than letting you go from my team,” Blake admitted. “Every week it’s not that you get better, you’ve always been great, but you just are coming in to your moment on this show. But if that’s going to happen to me, I can’t think of a coach I would rather you be with than Gwen.”
When it was Gwen’s turn to speak, she called the 16-year-old “perfection” and wondered, “Did Blake actually give me her a present?” Blake laughed and responded he’s “not that nice.” As for Joana’s performance, Gwen raved, “You are unbelievable. Now you’re super old and you’re 16 so it makes more sense. The way that you’re able to sing those low notes so confidently and just so calmly and then go into your head voice and then your chest voice, you are flawless. I am shocked and blown away by you tonight.”
“Dreaming of You” failed to crack the Top 200 at iTunes, which doesn’t bode well for her chances. Joana’s journey on “The Voice” has included such song choices as “Call Out My Name” (blind auditions), “High Hopes” (battles), “California Dreamin'” (knockouts), “You Can’t Stop the Girl” (playoffs) and “Get On Your Feet” (Top 13). Following last week’s performance she was in danger of going home, but her “save me” song of “Superwoman” caused her to survive while Cali Wilson and Max Boyle were both eliminated.
On the November 26 results show, nine artists will automatically advance into next week’s Top 10. The two lowest vote-getters will then face off in the live instant save, where social media users will have only a few minutes to keep their favorite artist. The losing contestant will go home in 11th place just prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
