‘The Voice’: Team John Legend power rankings best to worst on eve of season 16 Top 24 live shows

John Legend is hoping for beginner’s luck as he serves as a coach for the first time on “The Voice.” Viewers rate his team as one of the strongest of the four heading into the Top 24 live show on Monday, April 29. Legend, who is one of only 15 entertainers to win the coveted EGOT of top show biz awards, is well-positioned against the two veteran coaches — Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — as well as reigning two-time champ Kelly Clarkson.

We have compiled a power ranking of the artists now on Team John Legend. These would-be winners are listed from best to worst based on: their reception in the knockouts, battles and blind auditions; the resulting sales of their tracks on iTunes; and the votes of viewers like you.

Maelyn Jarmon
Age: 26
Hometown: Frisco, Texas
Resident: New York, New York

Maelyn has always loved music, despite facing some challenges. At two years old, she had tubes inserted into her ears to treat recurring ear infections. The tubes ultimately damaged her eardrums and left her deaf in her right ear and with only 80% hearing in the left ear. But that didn’t stop her. At 13, Maelyn started voice lessons and became heavily involved in musical theater. At 17, she was encouraged to try Broadway and her parents moved with her to New York City to give it a shot. At 21, she stepped away from Broadway and is now focusing on creating original music.

Shawn Sounds
Age: 33
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Resident: Houston, Texas

Shawn grew up around music and was enrolled in college-level classes for vocal performance, theater and dance by the time he was in fourth grade. In high school, his family moved to Florida, where he joined a community choir that traveled the state singing with artists such as Barry Manilow. After graduating college, Shawn took a break from music to focus on his career in teaching. He currently teaches middle school and loves singing and playing music for the kids. Recently, a video of him singing to his class went viral after piquing Snoop Dogg’s interest.

Celia Babini
Age: 18
Hometown: New York, New York
Resident: New York, New York

Celia grew up in Manhattan alongside her successful parents. Her father, Luca Babini, is a world-renowned photographer, and her mother is fashion designer Bonnie Young. Surrounded by models and her mother’s fashion enterprise, Celia always knew that wasn’t the path she was destined to follow. She is currently a senior at the legendary Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and an activist whose dream is to use her music to create change. Celia plans to continue her musical training at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and is determined to create her own success. Celia is also an environmentalist and a committee member of Solving Kids’ Cancer.

Jimmy Mowery
Age: 31
Hometown: Altoona, Pennsylvania
Resident: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

When Jimmy was born, his father gave up his music career to get a regular job and support the family. Tragically, on Thanksgiving morning when Jimmy was 11, a man broke into their home and shot and killed Jimmy’s father in front of the family. Jimmy decided to pick up the guitar as a way to process the grief and honor his late father. Music took over his life, and in high school, he started a band called Drop Out High that was signed with a record label for a few years. Jimmy now lives in Myrtle Beach with his wife, Heather, and plays over 200 shows a year.

Jacob Maxwell
Age: 20
Hometown: Coeur D’Alene, Idaho
Resident: Coeur D’Alene, Idaho

Jacob grew up in a tight-knit family in the beautiful lake resort town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He comes from three generations of law enforcement and wanted to be a police officer until he picked up the guitar. At 13, he joined the worship team and started singing in church. He opted to skip college and started waiting tables while performing at local venues. Jacob plans to settle down in Coeur d’Alene one day, but right now he is eager to chase his dreams on “The Voice.”

Lisa Ramey
Age: 33
Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
Resident: New York, New York

Lisa returns to “The Voice” for the second time. After not getting a chair turn last season, she took the coaches’ advice and has worked hard to fine-tune her voice. Lisa has a big personality, but has recently realized that she also has an intimate side to her voice. She has been performing at Sofar Sounds, a pop-up concert series, which has allowed her to perfect her artistry and discover different facets of her voice. Living in the Big Apple isn’t easy for an aspiring solo artist, but Lisa is hoping her second chance on “The Voice” will prove it’s worth the struggle.
