8:00 p.m. – At the top of the hour Carson Daly informed us that we’d see performances from Teams Blake and Legend tonight as well as a performance by Gwen. And once again Jake was declared the most streamed artist of the week, giving him the boost in votes for the second time in a row.
8:03 p.m. – The first two artists we learned earned their spot in the Top 10 were: Team Blake’s Ricky Duran and Team Legend’s Katie Kadan!
8:07 p.m. – Team Legend got together on stage for a sweet rendition of “How Deep Is Your Love.” I hate to say it but this is the best everyone has ever sounded. I like the toning down of Katie’s power and the control that Will showed. But Marybeth was the standout here–I want a duet of her and John!
8:12 p.m. – The next artists to be safe based on overnight voters were: Team Gwen’s Rose Short and Team Kelly’s Jake Hoot!
8:19 p.m. – In celebration of her album “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” and the 15th anniversary of its release, Gwen performed a medley of its biggest hits, including “Rich Girl” which featured a surprise appearance by Eve! I’m a huge fan of that album and that song so it was exciting to see the two take the stage again together and in all the bright and fun glory indicative of that era in Gwen’s career.
8:25 p.m. – America also saved from elimination: Team Gwen’s Joana Martinez and Team Legend’s Will Breman! Shocker?! I think so!
8:31 p.m. – Team Blake’s take on “Taking Care of Business” was right up Ricky’s alley, especially after the surge he made this week with his Monday night performance, but did a major disservice to Kat who was out of her element on a rock stage.
8:37 p.m. – The last results of the night revealed that Team Legend’s Marybeth Byrd, Team Blake’s Kat Hammock and Team Kelly’s Hello Sunday were all also safe from elimination, leaving Shane and Myracle to sing for the instant save.
8:43 p.m. – Team Kelly’s Shane Q took the stage first to sing “Jealous” in hopes that he’d earn the instant save. Maybe the pressure gave him the kick in the butt he needed, but this was without a doubt Shane’s best vocal of the season. Not only did he finally look like he was enjoying himself on stage, but I think he connected perfectly to the lyric which undoubtedly improved the quality of his performance overall.
8:47 p.m. – Team Gwen’s Myracle Holloway followed up with her version of “You Are So Beautiful.” You guys, I am so shook that these two just delivered top tier performances of the season and one of them has to go home! Go back in time and have these two deliver these vocals on Monday night and neither of them would have been in jeopardy! The cracks in Myracle’s voice here were gooorrrrrgeous.
8:51 p.m. – Immediate results rolled in during commercial break and it looked like Shane had a slight lead over Myracle in the live vote with 53% to her 47%.
8:56 p.m. – It was really nice to see Kelly talk to both Shane and Myracle with conviction, telling them both honestly that they gave performances this week not deserving of being in the bottom. Agreed!
8:59 p.m. – As expected based on early returns, America saved Shane with the instant vote, advancing him to the Top 10 and eliminating Myracle.
