On Tuesday’s edition of “The Voice,” the middle three vote getters among the Top 13 were Kim Cherry from Team Blake Shelton and the last two artists on Adam Levine‘s team: LB Crew and Mari. Each had to sing one more song to try and win votes cast by viewers via Twitter. While Kim won with the social media crowd, other fans of the show were less enamored and said she didn’t deserve to move forward in the competition.
By a margin of 47% to 43% they preferred the performance by Mari and wanted to see her win the Instant Save; only 10% of “Voice” viewers wanted to see LB make it into the Top 8. Perhaps the fact that Kim sang first helped her in the public vote.
Those watching the show live in the Eastern and Central time zones knew when to weigh in via Twitter. Fans of the three artists in the rest of the country had to rely on social media if they wanted to back their favorite, albeit without having seen the performances.
A plurality of viewers thought Kim really connected with the lyrics of her save song: the 1992 song “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It),” which was a big hit for En Vogue. But more thought that Mari managed to make “Latch,” the 2012 top 10 hit for English electronic music duo Disclosure and singer Sam Smith, her own. It was less so for LB who covered the Khalid song “Better,” which was his first top 10 single in the US.
