8:03 p.m. – After some quick rundowns from the coaches about what they’re trying to teach their teams this season, Carson Daly brought in the artists for the first set of results. He also told us that Jake was the most streamed artist on Apple Music overnight.

8:05 p.m. – The first artists declared safe were: Marybeth Byrd (Team Legend), Hello Sunday (Team Kelly) and Rose Short (Team Gwen)!

8:09 p.m. – For their first performance of the season as a group, Team Gwen came to the stage for Lizzo‘s “Good as Hell.” For the all female team it was the perfect song selection and allowed them all to have some fun on stage.

8:13 p.m. – In the next set of results, two more artists that earned safety this week were: Kat Hammock (Team Blake) and Katie Kadan (Team Legend)!

8:21 p.m. – America also saved with their votes and streams: Jake Hoot (Team Kelly), Myracle Holloway (Team Gwen) and Ricky Duran (Team Blake)!

8:29 p.m. – For their own group performance, Team Kelly picked up “Linger” by The Cranberries. For a team with such wildly different styles they actually did okay with this song that doesn’t fit any one of their styles perfectly. Ultimately it was performed just like a medley of their voices, including Kelly’s which was clearly the strongest though I really liked the harmonizing work that Hello Sunday added to her voice.

8:33 p.m. – Of the five remaining artists, the last two to be called safe were: Will Breman (Team Legend) and Shane Q (Team Kelly)! That left Cali, Joana and Max to perform for the instant save where only one of them would earn a spot in the Top 11.

8:41 p.m. – Up first to perform was Team Blake’s Cali Wilson with “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac. I quite liked this song selection for her because it fit her voice and style better than anything she’s done before, but also because there’s a verve to the song that might prove powerful in this live vote situation.

8:44 p.m. – For his chance to stay in the competition Max Boyle of Team Kelly took on Ed Sheeran‘s “Thinking Out Loud.” He sounded great on the appropriately picked track, but there was so much strain in his vocal the it skewed pitchy. Overall I think he was pretty disconnected from the song and didn’t give his best in the one time he needed to most.

8:47 p.m. – And last to sing, from Team Gwen, was Joana Martinez with “Superwoman” by Alicia Keys. Ugh! Why didn’t she sing this on Monday night? She sounded incredible. Her voice belongs on these soaring songs where she can really showcase the depth of her talent.

8:52 p.m. – During commercial we got a glimpse at where the live voting was headed and Joana took an early lead with 43% compared to Max’s 33% and Cali’s 25%. Looks like Cali is for sure out and the spot is up for grabs between Joana and Max!

8:59 p.m. – After the coaches handed the three artists heavy doses of support, Carson closed the instant save window and announced that the one of them to join the Top 11 was: Joana! And so we said goodbye to Cali and Max, striking one each from Teams Kelly and Blake and leaving both Team Legend and Team Gwen fully in tact.
