And now make your comments below and keep refreshing for our full live updating blog recap for the Top 8 results show on Tuesday, December 10:
9:01 p.m. – In order to find out which four artists will move on to the finale, Carson Daly will inform us the three that earned the most votes overnight (advancing straight to the finale) and the two that received the least (instantly eliminated). Then the remaining three will perform for this season’s final save.
9:03 p.m. – But first Blake took the stage with country star Trace Adkins for a performance of their song “Hell Right.”
9:06 p.m. – When the top 8 came to the stage to hear the results, Carson pointed out that three reached the Apple Music top 10 overnight. And the first finalist was… Katie Kadan!
9:10 p.m. – Australian singer Tones and I was next up on stage to perform her song “Dance Monkey” for the US audiences.
9:18 p.m. – And the second artist to advance to the finale based on overnight votes was… Jake Hoot!
9:23 p.m. – Returning from his stint as a member of Team Kelly on season 14, Kaleb Lee got the chance to perform his new song “I Dream in Southern,” a duet with Kelly, on tonight’s show.
9:28 p.m. – The third and final artist automatically safe and moving on to the finale was… Ricky Duran! That makes it one finalist each for Blake, John and Kelly.
9:35 p.m. – The three artists that earned enough votes to perform for the instant save were… Hello Sunday, Kat Hammock and Rose Short! That means we said goodbye to Marybeth Byrd and Will Breman as the bottom two.
9:42 p.m. – Team Kelly’s Hello Sunday took on Sia‘s “Chandelier” for their save performance. It’s rare that we hear this song as a duet, and while I actually ended up liking that arrangement of the song the girls didn’t sound their best on it. I admire them for taking on something so big, but it’s clear that they were outmatched by the very tough notes that the song asked of them.
9:46 p.m. – Kat went in the opposite direction and picked the mellow “You’ve Got a Friend” by Carole King for her song. I think it was a great choice because it’s a track everyone should know, but also because it’s an easily manageable vocal. Kat was typically sweet here, but it might have lacked the excitement she needed especially after a more upbeat Hello Sunday show.
9:49 p.m. – And closing out the save performances, Rose delivered the Aretha Franklin classic “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Nautral Woman.” I mean, aside from having an undeniable treasure of a voice, Rose’s song choice basically locked the save up for herself almost instantly. There is absolutely no way anyone could have beaten her with such a strong performance. Whew!
9:53 p.m. – Sure enough, when the commercial break hit and we got our glimpse of early voting Rose was out to an early lead with 55% of the total votes compared to 25% for Kat and 20% for Hello Sunday.
10:00 p.m. – With no major swing in the votes, Rose Short was instantly saved and joined Katie, Jake and Ricky in the finale!
