One of the recurring themes of “The Walking Dead” Season 10 appears to be the concept of villainy. In the season premiere, Aaron (Ross Marquand) asked Michonne (Danai Gurira) whether they were the bad guys in other people’s stories, which she later debunked. Now in the second episode, Beta (Ryan Hurst) tells Alpha (Samantha Morton) that their group of Whisperers is “far from the enemy.” Um, okay, just keep telling yourselves that. Watch the spoiler-filled preview trailer above for “The Walking Dead” Season 10, Episode 2.
“We Are the End of the World” airs Sunday, October 13 on AMC. The cryptic synopsis declares, “A flashback reveals the origins of Alpha and Beta. Alpha attempts to toughen up Lydia as they prepare to walk with the dead. Meanwhile, the Whisperers create their herds.”
In the promo video, Beta is seen shaving Alpha’s head with a razor blade as he whispers, “Their fear will subside. It’s time that the pack returns.” It’s not entirely clear whether the bearded second-in-command of the Whisperers is talking about our heroic survivors, or another group entirely.
At one point Beta rasps, “She unsettles the pack,” perhaps referring to Lydia (Cassady McClincy), Alpha’s estranged daughter who now lives as an outcast in Alexandria. Last season Alpha tried to get her daughter back by killing several fan-favorite characters, but it didn’t work. Something tells us she won’t be giving up so easily this year.
“There is clarify amid the chaos. Do you doubt me?” Alpha asks Beta, to which he quickly responds, “Never.” Last we saw Alpha, she was returning to her camp when she looked up and saw Carol (Melissa McBride) standing on her normal perch. Since Alpha’s border has been breached, does that mean we’ll see another war break out between our heroes and the Whisperers?
