Victoria Konefal (‘Days of Our Lives’) on her Daytime Emmy nomination and ‘Cin’-ful romance with Robert Scott Wilson [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW]

“There was a lot of screaming” when Victoria Konefal got the call from her co-star Olivia Rose Keegan that they had both been nominated for Best Younger Actress at the Daytime Emmys for their roles on “Days of Our Lives.” It’s the second nomination for Keegan, but the first for Konefal, who only started airing on the show in December 2017 in the role of Ciara Brady, the daughter of legendary “Days” supercouple Bo and Hope Brady. Watch our exclusive video interview with Konefal above.

“Days” leads this year’s Emmys with 27 nominations, including 15 bids for its actors, so Konefal will have plenty of company at this year’s event on May 5. And it was a busy year for Ciara, so Konefal credits the writing staff for giving her a treasure trove of material over the course of the year to submit to voters on her Emmy reel. She reveals that her nominated scenes include Ciara confronting her unfaithful stepfather Rafe (Galen Gering), then opening up to Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) about her rape, and finally flirting with new love interest Ben (Robert Scott Wilson).

Ciara’s scenes with Gering are “still my favorite that I’ve ever shot on the show to this date because there’s a great level of vulnerability and power that comes across in Ciara’s personality for the first time,” says Konefal. Exploring Ciara’s assault also struck a chord with the actress in no small part because of how strongly audiences responded to the storyline. “As an actress, that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do is impact someone’s life through my art,” she explains. “That scene really resonated with a lot of fans, and it resonated with me.”

After those intense emotional moments, she offered up Ciara’s scene with Ben to “lighten it up.” On paper, it’s an unusual romantic pairing since Ben was a serial killer released not so long ago from a mental hospital, but that’s what makes it so “perfect” for Konefal. “Initially we weren’t supposed to have a romantic storyline, but the writers saw our chemistry and decided to write towards that,” she says. “I thought it was incredible … It’s the perfect storm. It’s the bad guy who everyone hates — Ciara’s mother in particular was the person who threw him behind bars a couple of times.”

The romance has taken off to the point that fans have given Ciara and Ben the couple nickname Cin. So if this Cin-ful pairing helps Konefal win an Emmy, that would be Cin-sational.
