Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Viola Davis is entering the “How to Get Away with Murder” episode “He Betrayed Us Both” as her 2019 Emmy Awards submission for Best Drama Actress. This program aired January 17 and was the ninth episode of the fifth season for the ABC show.
In this flashback-heavy installment, Annalise loses her baby in 2005 and her marriage to Sam (Tom Verica) is in a turbulent state. She becomes depressed and begins paperwork on an adoption.
It’s the fifth nomination for Davis in this role, for which she won the category in 2015. For the 2019 contest, she is competing against past winner Laura Linney (“Ozark”), previous nominees Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”) and Robin Wright (“House of Cards”) and rookie nominees Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”) and Mandy Moore (“This Is Us”).
