Good heavens! Walker Burroughs sweetens his ‘Idol’ chances with his own official ice cream [WATCH VIDEO]

Sure, Walker Burroughs made it through to the Top 10 on Season 17 of “American Idol” last night on the strength of fan votes alone and without intervention by judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. But the 20-year-old from Birmingham, Alabama — rightly pegged by Perry as Top 10 material during his very first audition — nevertheless sweetened them up by revealing that Bruster’s, a local ice cream shop back home, allowed him to create his own flavor.

With his boy wizard glasses and boyish smile, Walker shared the news about his frozen treat with host Ryan Seacrest even before he learned he was going on in the competition. He proudly announced the flavor ingredients of his creamy confection known as Good Heavens: Honey Nut Cheerios, peanut butter swirls and vanilla ice cream. Perry, never one to turn down snacks, instantly demanded, “Give me a bite!”

The minute that he hit the last note of his lovely rendition of “Lovebug” by the Jonas Brothers, Katy jumped out of her seat and grabbed the tub of ice cream that had spoons at the ready. Luke dug in first and Katy, Lionel and even Ryan began to chow down. The host did manage to ask Katy what she first saw in Walker, since she predicted his current status on the show. Her response? “Harry Potter.”

Consider the ice cream as Walker’s reward for getting away with performing the inspirational “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” the night before, that old Broadway chestnut from “The Sound of Music” the night before. It shows that this member of an a college cappella group known as The Beltones knows how to sell a golden oldie to a new generation.

Besides creating his own dairy flavor, Burroughs is a sophomore at Belmont University and is studying music education. The piano player also jump-started his future career when he released his own single, “The Moon Song,” in July 2018. Other facts: He has a twin sister named Milligan, who lives in Hawaii. He saw her home there for the first time when he went to the islands to perform as part of the Top 40. And he has a girlfriend, India Ellison,  who he has been dating since at least early 2017. He made the local news in Alabama when he arranged for a massive “promposal” for India with a seven-piece band.

Below is the announcement of Walker’s ice cream news that he posted on his Facebook page.
